Oklahoma recently saw the destructive power of an EF5 tornado, but in the aftermath of the devastation, we've also been witness to the incredible resilience of the human spirit. Moore, OK resident Jack Haden survived the storm but found that his 2003 Ford Mustang wasn't quite as lucky. Members of the Westboro church showed up today in Moore, Oklahoma to protest the funeral of a child killed in the Moore Tornado. Approximately 100 members of Patriot Guard Bikers showed up to provide a hedge between the cult church and the persons attending the funeral. It is my understanding the members of the Westboro Church were arrested for not acquiring a permit to protest and are currently being booked into the Moore City Jail. While following the aftermath of the tornado in Moore I was disgusted to see people using the tragedy to make political statements or to slam the political opposition. Before all the debris had even fallen back down to the earth, Rhode Island Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse took the microphone on the Senate floor and lambasted Republican Senators for "denying man-made global warming." He laid blame for the tornado squarely at the feet of Republicans while the dying and injured were still being pulled from the rubble. MOORE, Okla. (CBS Houston/AP) — Search and rescue crews worked through the night after a monstrous tornado barreled through the Oklahoma City suburbs, demolishing an elementary school and reducing homes to piles of splintered wood. At least 24 people were killed and and that number is expected to climb, officials said Tuesday.

So an interesting little note here. But hours before the storms rolled into Oklahoma, most cell phone service across the state, and specifically in Northeast Oklahoma was cut. No one could make any calls. Texting worked but no calls. Why would this happen BEFORE the storms? I know the government has the ability to turn the service off I am sure. Was this some sort of test to see if they could turn it off.. and during an emergency it was convenient?? So not as many people notice/blamed it on the storms.

Obama will be meeting with his disaster response team, including Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, on Tuesday before delivering a statement on the devastating tornado that tore through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday. Obama has declared a major disaster in Oklahoma, ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts.

No politics today. The state of Oklahoma has suffered another blow, courtesy of mother nature and the privilege of living in the middle of Tornado Alley. I watched yesterday as parts of Moore was torn apart. I wondered about my aunt and uncle, living just off I-35. They are okay, but their house did sustain damage. They are elderly and were unable to heed the warnings to flee from the path of the storm. They had no underground shelter, so they rode it out in the bathtub. Search, Rescue & Recovery operations continue. 91 confirmed dead as of 6:15am, EST. More severe storms are approaching the area, at this minute, according to TV station's weather dept. The films of the EF-5(?) from yesterday are amazing, scary and gut-wrenching. TV crews have been up all night with rescue workers and first responders.
