Black Lives Matter finds itself under fire for protesting the Baton Rogue shooting, but ignoring the Louisiana flood, reports the Washington Times. A video of a Baton Rogue resident asking where the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter people are has gone viral. “I have not seen not one Black Panther boat, not one Black Lives Matter boat, truck or nothing else. So with all the drama that was going on with the Alton Sterling killing, oh they came out with guns, ready to go to war. But here we go, all these people flooded out and truly in...

America does not really have a "gun violence" problem.  America has a violent urban black culture problem.  If you want to look at the numbers more closely, you can add in a violent illegal immigrant problem. There is a common theme that has become an Internet cliché when a young black man is shot and killed in the middle of a violent crime. "He was such a nice boy." "He was turning his life around." "He was an aspiring rap star." "They didn't have to shoot him." It is refreshing when the mother of a young black man shot...

The shooter was Mainak Sarkar, said Officer Jenny Houser, a city police spokeswoman. Sarkar is listed on a UCLA website as a member of a computational biomechanics research group run by the victim, a professor of biomechanical engineering.

In December, preparing to escape what turned out to be a mild New York winter for the palmy breezes of Southern California, I was stunned when friends suggested that I think twice about coming to Los Angeles. What could be awful enough to keep my wife and me in the Northeast? I soon discovered that, for every Angeleno I spoke with, the answer was the same. It wasn’t homelessness, crime, or El Niño; it wasn’t that Kobe Bryant was retiring. No, it was traffic: the subject of constant calculation and discussion, a matter of negotiation between friends, spouses, and would-be...

During the LA riots, the LAPD completely abandoned Koreatown in Central LA. Instead the police formed defense line guarding Beverly Hills. Knowing that no help was coming, Korean Americans formed self defense groups to defend their shops and homes. Anytime some idiot tells you the police will come to defend you, remember Koreatown and the LA riots.

The gun-control proposals that Mayor Mitch Landrieu will publicly announce on Friday (April 22) include restrictions on who can carry guns, as well as the places and manner in which guns can be carried. The measures would also outlaw guns without serial numbers and require gun-theft victims to notify police within 48 hours, according to a draft ordinance.
  • California minimum wage hike hits L.A. apparel industry: 'The exodus has begun'

Los Angeles was once the epicenter of apparel manufacturing, attracting buyers from across the world to its clothing factories, sample rooms and design studios. But over the years, cheap overseas labor lured many apparel makers to outsource to foreign competitors in far-flung places such as China and Vietnam. Now, Los Angeles firms are facing another big hurdle — California's minimum wage hitting $15 an hour by 2022 — which could spur more garment makers to exit the state. Last week American Apparel, the biggest clothing maker in Los Angeles, said it might outsource the making of some garments to another...
  • Christian cross has no place on L.A. County seal, judge rules

In a long-awaited ruling, a federal judge has sided with plaintiffs who argued it was unconstitutional for Los Angeles County supervisors to place a Christian cross on the county seal. A divided Board of Supervisors voted in 2014 to reinstate the cross on top of a depiction of the San Gabriel Mission, which appears on the seal among other symbols of county history. They were sued by the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California and a group of religious leaders and scholars, who said placement of the cross on the seal unconstitutionally favored Christianity over other religions.

According to a news release, police received several calls at 7:15 a.m. Friday about a school bus fight in the 1200 block of Veterans Boulevard in Kenner. Not long ago, Inglewood's prospect's looked bleak. The city was verging on bankruptcy, its schools were destitute, and it had been a long time since people called it the "City of Champions" - once a nod to the world champion Lakers - without irony. But in recent years, the nine-square-mile city with a population of just 110,000 has shown signs of a stunning turnaround. The Forum, which the Lakers left in 1999, was reopened as a lavish concert venue. Developers announced that the Hollywood Park racetrack, closed in 2013, would be the site of a massive retail and residential complex....

An owl flew into a Covington police officer's cruiser early Thursday (Dec. 24), pecking and scratching the officer and leading him to drive into a ditch, Chief Tim Lentz said. Officer Lance Benjamin received only minor scratches from the odd Christmas Eve encounter and was able to finish his shift. Lentz said he thought someone was playing a joke on him when he received a 1:45 a.m. text message that Benjamin had been in an accident involving a nocturnal bird of prey. "Surely nothing as outrageous as an owl flying into a police car could happen. I imagined the next...
