If you're partial to black and white "tuxedo" cats, an animal shelter in Novato, Calif., would like to talk. It seems someone has dropped off more than 100 of the cats over the last 18 months. The last dropoff occurred Monday, when a car pulled up to the Marin Humane Society and left behind three boxes with 24 cats. It was the fourth such occurrence in the last 18 months. This Sunday, Aug. 17, is National Black Cat Appreciation Day, a time to recognize the fine features of these felines and to encourage the adoption of black cats. A black cat is not a specific breed. The Cat Fanciers Association allows solid black coloring in 22 of its recognized breeds. The only breed with all-black felines is the Bombay, produced by mating a Burmese with a black American shorthair.

Officers got into a standoff with an enraged cat early Tuesday morning after it allegedly trapped its owners in the bedroom of their Chula Vista home.
