Because immigrants are not evenly distributed throughout the country, however, some schools have significantly higher percentages of immigrant children. The report breaks down the data by census units called public use microdata areas, which are roughly between 100,000 and 200,000 residents and generally respect county or city boundaries. The average number of public school students in each PUMA is about 20.600

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been going to courthouses and arresting people in America illegally, sparking outrage from prosecutors and attorneys. They worry such tactic will discourage undocumented immigrants from appearing in court to testify as witnesses for prosecutors. Criminal defense lawyer Octavio Chaidez said his client is among those taken into custody by ICE agents, who arrested him at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Pasadena. He said he had just finished a criminal court appearance with his client when four agents swooped in, confirmed his name and took his client away. “It was very shocking because...

Even before Donald Trump was inaugurated, U.S. citizens who own land along the border reportedly began receiving letters from the Justice Department informing them that the federal government wants their land to build a fence (i.e. the president’s border wall), that it intends to acquire their land, and the amount of compensation the government is offering.

Open borders are the only path to defeating President Donald Trump, a Salon writer claims. In a piece titled “Everyone’s wrong on immigration: Open borders are the only way to defeat Trump and build a better world”, Salon writer Anis Shivani claims that there is no distinction between a legal and illegal immigrant; immigration law is “racist”; and “open borders are the only way to go.” Shivani adds: We are in a situation of chaos, breeding technical illegality, because federal regulations have become too complex. Comprehensive immigration reform of any type would make these laws even more cumbersome by drastically curtailing...

United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it arrested 86 foreign nationals across five Midwestern states last week, including 26 in Minnesota. In a release Wednesday, the department said the operation targeted immigration fugitives, re-entrants and at-large criminal aliens over a three-day span. The operation included 32 arrests in Nebraska, 26 in Minnesota, 23 in Iowa, four in North Dakota and one in South Dakota. ICE said 52 of those arrested had prior convictions in addition to an undocumented status. Twenty-three had previously been deported and returned, which constitutes a felony.

Both Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) visited the United States' southern border in the beginning of 2017, but they met with two different groups of people. Pelosi appeared over the weekend at a respite center in the Rio Grande Valley that aids immigrants released from Border Patrol and reportedly accommodated undocumented immigrants in the past. Cruz visited the border in February and said he likes to meet with Border Patrol in the area whenever he comes. "Every time I come to the border, I try to listen and ask questions to border...

Nearly 500 jurisdictions are now sanctuary cities, according to a group that’s tracked the issue for more than a decade, and who said there’s been a massive surge in the number of places trying to thwart federal immigration agents since President Trump’s election. The Ohio Jobs & Justice Political Action Committee (http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp) has added more than three dozen new cities and counties to its list in 2017 alone, as jurisdictions rush to try to shield illegal immigrants from what they expect to be a new push for deportations under Mr. Trump. “More will be coming,” said Steve Salvi, founder of...

One of the fundamental ways scientists measure the well-being of a nation is tracking the rate at which its citizens die and how long they can be expected to live. So the news out of the federal government Thursday is disturbing: The overall U.S. death rate has increased for the first time in a decade, according to an analysis of the latest data. And that led to a drop in overall life expectancy for the first time since 1993 Most notably, the overall death rate for Americans increased because mortality from heart disease and stroke increased after declining for years....

Federal police handcuffed Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez for refusing to leave an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Chicago on Monday. Gutierrez was there to attend a meeting between ICE officials and immigration activists, lawyers, community leaders, and elected officials. When the Illinois representative did not get the answers he wanted, however, he decided to stay. “They were asking about specific cases and about the general conduct of ICE and deportations,” said Doug Rivlin, Gutierrez's director of communications, The Hill reports. “The congressman has decided that he did not get the answers he was looking for from the ICE...

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will seek the legalisation of undocumented Irish citizens living in the United States when he meets US president Donald Trump and vice president Mike Pence later this week as he kicked-off a week-long tour of the United States. Addressing a dinner hosted by the Friendly Sons of St Patrick on Saturday evening, one of the oldest Irish associations in the United States, Mr Kenny said he would “renew the strong case on behalf of the hard-working, tax-paying Irish people in the United States who for too long now have been living in the shadows, and want nothing...

A look at Mexico’s Immigration Laws - Who Knew? 1Aug 10, 2014 Source: humanevents.com What the west could learn from Mexico’s Immigration law: Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets “the equilibrium of the national demographics,” when foreigners are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests….” This only applies one way ..naturally! From here to there ... but not from there to here. Mexico has a radical idea for a rational immigration policy that most Americans would love. However, Mexican officials haven’t been sharing that idea with us as they press for our Congress to adopt...

With his call for Vice President Mike Pence to lead an investigation of vote fraud, President Trump has not given up on documenting his much-maligned claim that more than 3 million illegal-alien voters cost him the nationwide popular vote last November. Amid vehement objection and ridicule from the left, there are many election experts who agree with the president that widespread vote fraud exists, including illegal-alien voting. But they think it’s unwise to make any estimates of the number of illegal voters, because there is no hard data at the moment. Yet, that likely will change with access now to...

The City of San Francisco sought an injunction Wednesday against President Donald Trump’s executive order to block federal grants to “sanctuary cities,” complaining the move could be devastating to the city’s bottom line. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, City Attorney Dennis Herrera asked a federal judge to freeze the order until a lawsuit challenging its constitutionality is resolved. If “defendants strip all federal funds from San Francisco, the result will be ‘catastrophic,’” Herrera wrote in seeking an injunction in U.S. District Court, the Chronicle reports. “Under this cloud of uncertainty and budgetary sword of Damocles, San Francisco must adopt...

It's a detail that stands out in photos of recent immigration roundups across the country: federal agents wearing clothing that labels them as "police." Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say it's an accurate word for them to use, and it can mean the difference between life and death in volatile situations. But elected officials in Los Angeles say they want the practice to stop. When ICE officers call themselves "police," they claim, it's misleading and endangers public safety. How long has this been happening? What's the debate? And why is it coming up now? The history It isn't new for...

New Life Church of Colorado Springs' Nueva Vida congregation will begin to offer an additional worship service starting this coming Sunday. Brady Boyd, senior pastor of New Life Church, told The Christian Post that having to add a second service was "really phenomenal" and testified to the "obviously great leadership" for the Spanish-speaking congregation. Univision anchor Jorge Ramos believes he has found the explanation for the recent drop in illegal border crossings reported by immigration officials: fear or what he calls the “Trump effect.” In an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN Thursday night, Ramos laid out his theory in detail. “Jorge, the massive drop in border apprehensions last month, the customs border protections says 40 percent, it’s down 40 percent, people trying to cross illegally. What do you make of that?” Cooper asked. “Is it possible that the tough talk on illegal immigration by Trump is working, that he deserves credit for that...
