Are you familiar with Candide - Voltaire’s satirical treatise on the foolhardiness of perpetual optimism at the expense of reality? The truth is, we really can’t afford much more optimism in the Age of Obama. There comes a point when not allowing reality to intrude on your version of the world, when preferring the unfounded optimism of Voltaire’s Dr. Pangloss borders on absolute delusion. It seems our own Dr. Krauthammer - a Doctor of Psychiatry not Philosophy – agrees. He has diagnosed our semi-retired President as suffering from just that: “The image of a man in denial on the verge of delusion....

Labor Day: very confusing. Joey B was in Detroit with Big Labor telling them that “it’s time to take back America!” From whom? And hasn’t that sort of hate speech been deemed to be racist by our Attorney General? Also at the event, Teamsters’ President James Hoffa told the Labor Day crowd to get off their butts and head to the polls: “If we stay home, we lose. We’ve got to have turnout. That’s how we turn this country around.” Turn the country around? Haven’t you and your team been running it for the past 6 years? As I said, it was...

On CNN’s Reliable Sources this morning, host Brian Stelter spoke with radical Muslim cleric Anjam Choudary... “I believe that the Shariah is the best way of life,” he also said. “I believe that one day Shariah will come to America and the rest of the world.” ... He then contended that there is no such thing as “radical” Islam. “There is no such thing as a radical or moderate form of Islam,” he said. “You know, a woman is either pregnant or not pregnant. If you abide by Islam, and you follow what is in the Koran and the traditions...

I was Inspired by Bijou’s posting of Doktor Zoom’s tweet yesterday:So because I’m feeling lazy this Labor Day, and because it’s been nearly 4 years to the day that I originally posted “Once in a Lifetime” I decided to repost this classic from my vault. Be sure to turn the music player on, it’s way more fun that way: “Once in a Lifetime”Originally posted August 30, 2010. I think you’ll remember the occasion: This is so-ooo embarrassing. Here I am, thinking that the strange dress that looks like it’s already been caught in the rain was my biggest problem. So...

I have long had a love/hate relationship with pop music. Growing up as an aspiring jazz pianist, I wasn’t interested in listening to anything that might appeal to those that I deemed to possess a less than refined palette of musical taste. This willful ignorance continued for some time; it was not until I began making YouTube videos (and subsequently receiving requests for modern pop songs) that I decided to drop my preconceived notions and examine contemporary pop with an open mind. What I found is that, despite my initial aversion to the stuff I was hearing, I was unable...

Editor’s note: This is a guest post by my (imaginary) friend, the Very Honorable Ima Librul, Senator from the great State of ConfusionUtopia. He expresses leftist perceptions of magical reality with refreshing clarity, for which we thank him. Senator Librul is a founding member of CCCEB (Climate Change Causes Everything Bad), a charter member of President Obama’s Go For it Team, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the Meretricious Relations Subcommittee. He is also justly proud of his expertise in the care and breeding of green unicorns, for which his Save the Unicorns Foundation has received substantial Federal grants. We are honored to have...

“Clearly, a civilization that feels guilty for everything it is and does will lack the energy and conviction to defend itself.” - Jean-Francois RevelAlthough it’s the wrong holiday, the theatrical reference of the century comes to us this Labor Day weekend via Instapundit’s Facebook friend: “What is happening now is basically America’s version of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The President of the United States — supported to an exceptional extent by an electorate both uncomprehending and untrusting of the outside world — is Clarence the Angel, and he’s showing us what the world would be like if we’d never been born…”...

At the #BeigePressConference, it became eminently clear that “the strategy thing” is above Big Guy’s pay grade: “I don't want to put the cart before the horse. We don't have a strategy yet,” before elaborating, “I think what I’ve seen in some of the news reports suggest that folks are getting a little further ahead of what we’re at than what we currently are.” Imagine if Donald Rumsfeld had uttered that line! Or better yet, George W. Bush! Butt I digress; since we prefer to be led from behind,Head ‘em up, move ‘em on! and since Val is still on...

President Obama has a busy Labor Day weekend planned as he leaves on Air Force One for New York later this afternoon. Saturday, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are expected to attend the wedding of MSNBC’s Alex Wagner to his personal White House Chef Sam Kass. The wedding will be held at the Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a Westchester County farm-to-table restaurant in New Rochelle, New York.

In case you missed it, GreetingsFromYonkers posted an insightful comment late Wednesday night on the limitations of Twitter in a semi-illiterate age: “Gosh, wholly apart from whether we do or don't know what we do or don't know, I have an even more basic issue with Twitter. It's the 140-character limit. Frankly, most people are not literate enough to work around this roadblock, which calls for exceptionally high vocabulary and syntax skills. Thus tweets end up being an incomprehensible mélange of clichéd abbreviations, or extremely superficial.Let's all close our eyes and imagine what Twitter would be like in the hands of...

First they showed us the melting ice caps. But we just said: "Yeah. It's what ice does in summer." Then they showed us the drowning polar bears. But we just said: "Proves nothing. And anyway the polar bear population has increased fivefold in 50 years, which hardly sounds like a species under threat." Then they showed us the Hockey Stick. But we just laughed and made amusing videos about Michael Mann. But then, they showed us their ultimate weapon: grainy, arty, black and white portraits of climate scientists with concerned expressions on their faces. It was then that we knew...

Take a bow Stephen Colbert, your fake news show term “truthiness” has just been adopted by your government. It’s been shortened to “truthy” and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the old “Attack Watch” organization which was later acquired by the newly incorporated “Truth Team.” (I explained how this worked back when the merger was originally announced in 2012.) In case you’ve forgotten, the role of those totally impartial organizations was to turn Right Wingers in to the authorities for telling lies about Big Guy - so the IRS could audit them. “The Truth Team is a network of supporters...

Now that entertainment reporters have piled on President Barack Obama with their absolutely bogus stories about him attending the Emmy Awards, one thing seems certain:. Obama's Killer Rabbit moment is fast approaching. Most likely the Killer Rabbit will chase him down on some wide green fairway as he plays golf with former professional athletes. The athletes might still be quick. But the Killer Rabbit is inexorable. Killer Rabbits are half metaphorical, half real beasts. They may look like cuddly cottontails. But they're politically vicious, cunning, wriggly and impossible to catch. And when they attack, they show their big, sharp, pointy...

My high school physics teacher used to tell us that in order to understand physics you first had to be curious. His First Directive was “wonder about things.” I bring this up only because it is a source of constant amazement to me how uncurious everyone around Big White is - and by “everyone” I do mean EVERYWON. They receive a lot of information in their newsfeed that they tweet, text and Instagram on to others, along with an original witticism when the spirit moves them. If the “news” comes from a trusted source, i.e. somebody in their Twittersphere, they...

The Russians -well known for their great sense of humor (especially when you're making fun of them)- have loudly complained to the Bulgarian government for not-the-first-time re. the ongoing vandalism offensive against (offensive) USSR-era monuments glorifying the Soviet Red Army, the Bulgarian Red Army, and/or socialism in general that still dot the bleak post- communist landscape of the EU's poorest country. One gets the feeling they might have done a bit better by now economically if not for the damage wrought by 40 years of communist stagnation- they seem to think that too, as evidenced by the Bulgarians' disgust...
