The Rev. Jesse Jackson and Mayor Emanuel are differing on where the fingers should be pointed when it comes to federal anti-violence help, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore. Rev. Jesse Jackson and Mayor Emanuel agree curbing violence involves not just police but economic development and jobs in high crime neighborhoods, but Rev. Jackson seemed to fault President Obama for funding priorities that appear to put immigrant children coming across the borders first. “If we can find $4 billion for those children, and we should, we can find $2 billion for Chicago,” said Jackson.

A Mexican federal judge ordered Andrew Tahmooressi back to prison after the U.S. Marine sergeant made his first official courtroom appearance since being locked up March 31 for accidentally crossing the border with guns in his pickup truck. The 26-year-old veteran of two tours in Afghanistan was finally able to tell his story to a judge, after his case had been delayed by both Mexico's unpredictable legal system and his own trouble settling on a lawyer. It was not immediately clear what Tahmooressi said at the evidentiary hearing, which was closed to the public.

I tried plinking with my new Marlin 795 .22 semi auto about three months ago. Almost every round jammed, I even had to use a clothes hanger to punch some stuck rounds out of the chamber. Tried again yesterday after a thorough cleaning. Same thing. Thought, "Oh well, send it off to Marlin for repairs". By chance, I ran a few rounds of the same .22 long through a Puma revolver. Oddly enough, a bunch of the rounds didn't fit in the cylinder.. Now I get it.. I was using Aguila ammo, made in Mexico, bought for real cheap at...

enate Majority Leader Harry Reid blocked a parade of campaign-season votes on gun rights on Wednesday that could have been a political thorn for Democrats seeking to retain control of the chamber in this fall's elections. The Nevada Democrat used Senate procedures to prevent votes on any amendments to a bipartisan measure expanding hunters' access to public lands and renewing land conservation programs. The dozens of thwarted amendments included proposals by Republicans expanding gun owners' rights and by Democrats toughening firearms restrictions. The wide-ranging bill would open up more federal lands to sportsmen, let hunters return 41 polar bear carcasses...

A dramatic spike in the number of Americans with permits to carry concealed weapons coincides with an equally stark drop in violent crime, according to a new study, which Second Amendment advocates say makes the case that more guns can mean safer streets. The study by the Crime Prevention Research Center found that 11.1 million Americans now have permits to carry concealed weapons, up from 4.5 million in 2007. The 146 percent increase has come even as both murder and violent crime rates have dropped by 22 percent. “When you allow people to carry concealed handguns, you see changes in...

This legislation is pretty scary. In Massachusetts you have to have either a License To Carry or a Firearms Identification Card to own a firearm. The H.4121 legislation would make the issuance of both of those items totally discretionary. The police chief can deny your request and simply declare you "unsuitable" for any arbitrary reason. If they can get this to pass, then plan on seeing the same approach attempted in other states. How Massachusetts H.4121 Would Abolish The Second Amendment

I just picked up a new Ruger 77/44 bolt action and wondered if anyone here has any experience with them, or favorite loads/reloads for them? It is a SS 44 Mag bolt action carbine with an 18 1/2 inch barrel and Synthetic stock. Michigan just passed a law that will allow pistol cartridge rifles to be used for deer hunting in the 'shotgun zone', so I plan to use it for hunting deer. I'm thinking 240 grain semi-jacketed softpoints should do the job out to 125 yds or so.

Former America's Most Wanted host John Walsh is hosting a new show on CNN on which he vows to keep the push for gun control and the war on the NRA alive. According to The Wrap, Walsh said: I'm the father of a murdered child. I've done nothing but track violence in America since my son was murdered. We have a serious problem with guns in this country... and the NRA solution to arm every grammar-school 80-year-old teacher with a gun is absolutely ludicrous. He claims the NRA has gotten so big and financially powerful through relationships with gun manufacturers...

Legislation to promote shooting on public land and relax ammunition regulations sailed through Congress on Monday night after Senators voted overwhelmingly in favour of a key procedural motion. In stark contrast to gun control legislation, which has been stalled since last April, the bipartisan "sportsmen's act" has been promoted by gun enthusiasts and attracted support from several Democrats facing re-election in Republican-leaning states. A cloture motion to bring debate to a close and move rapidly toward a vote was passed by 82 senators to 12, all but ensuring the bill – which is matched by a similar measure already passed...

Vice president Joe Biden has disparaged gun-rights advocates as “tea baggers,” CNN host John Walsh told reporters today. ... ‘They’re all scared sh*tless of the NRA, aren’t they?’” (said John Walsh) “‘John, every one of them,’” the vice president replied, according to Walsh. “‘Because the NRA will run a tea-bagger against you. . . . They’ll put 5 million bucks against you.’”

Walsh also said that Vice President Joe Biden had agreed with his claim that politicians are “scared s--less” of the NRA.

The gun-control group founded by former New York mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) will begin surveying all federal candidates in the 2014 midterm elections on gun issues Monday as it tries to become a political counterweight to the National Rifle Association. This is the first big step by Bloomberg — who has committed to spending $50 million of his personal fortune this year to build a national grass-roots movement that will pressure lawmakers to pass more restrictive gun laws — to devise a political strategy heading into the November elections. Bloomberg’s group, Everytown for Gun Safety, is asking all Senate and...

At least 13 people have been shot in Chicago at the start of the long holiday weekend, including a woman killed as she sat on a porch near Garfield Park and a man slain in front of a hair salon on the South Side, police said. ... The mother of the boy, Andrea Byes, said she is planning to move out of the two-flat where she lives with her children because of the violence, drug sales and loitering on the block. "I'm not surprised something like this happened," said Byes, 40. "It was a matter of time. They're all over...

Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a gun control bill Wednesday that would have banned ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds. In his veto message, the Republican governor rejected the idea that limiting the number of bullets that guns can hold will put an end to mass shootings, calling it a "simplistic" and "trivial" approach. The bill would have reduced the legal ammunition capacity from 15 to 10 rounds.

A South Carolina homeowner would have been at a distinct disadvantage to a man who invaded his home early Thursday. Orlandous Brown, 33, suffers from cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. But the Easley, S.C. man had a gun and used it to defend himself against 26 year-old Atlanta native Darin Lowe, according to The Greenville News. Both exchanged gunfire in Brown’s living room. The wheelchair-bound man prevailed, however, shooting Lowe several times, killing him. Brown was shot as well but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Latisha Vernon, a friend of Brown’s, and her 17 year-old daughter were in the...

Introduction to video: The pistol version of the popular Ruger 10/22 rifle. The Ruger Charger comes standard with 10-round flush magazines and can accept high-capacity mags holding 30 rounds or more. As demonstrated, making one with a cheap small-format 3D printer and some parts purchased on the internet (with no paperwork) is trivially easy.

Robert Couffignal of the regional teachers union insisted that the attack was an "isolated case." He said the larger problem for schools in his region and around France is tension over economic decline and lack of job prospects for young people, especially those from poor or immigrant backgrounds.
