Gov. Cuomo issued a travel ban Saturday, shutting down roads and some train service as a killer blizzard bears down on New York City. New York City and state roads will close to all traffic except emergency responders at 2:30 p.m. Metro-North and Long Island Railroad service will stop at 4:00 p.m., the governor said. MTA will also shutter service for exterior subway routes at 4 p.m., Cuomo said. The massive blizzard will go down as one of the five worst in city history, Mayor de Blasio said Saturday. The storm - which killed at least nine people as it...

OSLO (Reuters) - Global warming is likely to disrupt a natural cycle of ice ages and contribute to delaying the onset of the next big freeze until about 100,000 years from now, scientists said on Wednesday. In the past million years, the world has had about 10 ice ages before swinging back to warmer conditions like the present. In the last ice age that ended 12,000 years ago, ice sheets blanketed what is now Canada, northern Europe and Siberia. In a new explanation for the long-lasting plunges in global temperatures that cause ice ages, scientists pointed to a combination of...
  • [Southern California] Baby It's Cold Outside [36 degrees at USC ties record low, set in 1916]

Southern California does get real weather. Sometimes. We had record cold yesterday and we're looking at possible rain tonight. Today's high temperature wasn't expected to break 60. That's not a Midwestern blizzard. But it's weather. The National Weather Service said Sunday's low temperature of 36 degrees at USC tied the station's all-time record low, set in 1916. Overnight, federal forecasters warned of a "cold air mass" that pushed temperatures in Los Angeles County valleys to the lower  to mid-30s. Same went for the Santa Monica Mountains, they said. The Ojai Valley in Ventura County was expected to see low temps in...

BURNING fossil fuels and cutting down trees causes global COOLING, a shock new NASA study has found. Major theories about what causes temperatures to rise have been thrown into doubt after NASA found the Earth has cooled in areas of heavy industrialization where more trees have been lost and more fossil fuel burning takes place. Environmentalists have long argued the burning of fossil fuels in power stations and for other uses is responsible for global warming and predicted temperature increases because of the high levels of carbon dioxide produced - which causes the global greenhouse effect. While the findings did...

Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz told NPR in a Wednesday interview that the term “climate change” is the perfect “pseudoscientific theory for a big-government politician who wants more power.”In the interview, Cruz recalled the global cooling arguments from the 1970s, telling NPR’s Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep that some of the same researchers worrying about global cooling as a threat in the 70’s, are the same people now telling people global warming is a problem today. The Texas senator asked Inskeep if he remembered back 30 or 40 years ago when politicians were telling people ” … that we were...

Solar observers predict a “Little Ice Age (LIA)” to arrive before 2100. While expert economists confirm that a modestly warmer climate benefits both health and human prosperity, a colder climate generally spells more sickness and poses real danger to agricultural yields—with consequent famines and mass starvation. These calamities can be overcome – through adequate and timely preparation of energy supplies, water projects, and croplands. There is some urgency in preparing now for the possibility of such a cold period, similar to the LIA that prevailed off and on during 1400-1800 AD. It is likely then that tropical regions will end...

Even more predictable than the actual weather is Mother Nature once again having fun with climate alarmists. As winter approaches, we see true climate change, also known as changing seasons. The United Nations conference on climate change is set to begin in just a week, and Mother Nature, as a reality check, threw a giant snowball at the American Midwest. It’s not even Thanksgiving, and winter is officially a month away, but the Midwest was clobbered with cold temperatures and snow – not just a late fall cold snap, but a major winter storm. Single-digit temperatures. Eleven inches of snow...

A deep freeze set in across the Midwest on Sunday with low temperatures forecast in the single digits and a few below zero, turning the season's first major snow into ice that made some roads treacherous to travel. After snow on Friday and Saturday across much of the region, temperatures plunged behind the front. The National Weather Service forecast 20 degrees or lower across six states from North Dakota to Illinois. Fargo, North Dakota, could dip to 11 degrees by early Sunday. Madison, Wisconsin, could see 7 degrees and Des Moines 12. Parts of Iowa, northwest Illinois and southern Wisconsin...

Chicago gets its largest November snowfall in 120 years. The season's first snowfall dropped as much as 17 inches across Chicago's northern suburbs, and the total of 11.2 inches at O'Hare International Airport made it the largest November snowfall in 120 years. ... According to the weather service, this was the second-largest November snowstorm, behind only a 12-inch snowfall Nov. 25-26, 1895. This month is catapulted to the fourth snowiest November on record with more than a week remaining. The three snowiest Novembers were: 1940 with 14.8 inches, 1895 with 14.5 inches and 1951 with 14.3 inches.

Winter storm Bella dumps 16 inches of snow on the Midwest in the heaviest recorded November snowstorm for a hundred years People fired up snowblowers and dug out their shovels Saturday after the first significant snowstorm of the season dumped up to 20 inches of snow across the Upper Midwest - blanketing a swath from South Dakota to Michigan. The storm created hazardous travel conditions and caused more than 500 flight cancellations. A blast of much colder air was following the storm. The National Weather Service said the snow, which first fell in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa on Friday,...

Decades before Sen. Bernie Sanders warned that global warming was driving terrorism, U.S. intelligence officials warned that global cooling would cause massive crop failures, destabilize government and drive violent conflict. A Central Intelligence Agency report from 1974 warned Earth's "climate is returning to that of the neo-boreal era, an era of drought, famine, and political unrest in the western world." The report cited famines in the Soviet Union, drought in Latin America and flooding in the U.S. as examples of how global cooling was wreaking havoc on countries.

Yes of course we know the media is an enemy of freedom. Their lies prove that every day; but sometimes it gets a little too old and tired to sit by and make believe we don’t know they are liars. A recent insane lie from the New York Times (naturally) breathlessly announced not only is Greenland melting but when it does fade away, the worldwide sea level will increase by 20 feet! This would, of course, effectively bring about the end of the world for all but a few backward tribes living in mountains somewhere. This claim doesn’t come from...

New studies flip climate-change notions upside down The sun will go into "hibernation" mode around 2030, and it has already started to get sleepy. At the Royal Astronomical Society's annual meeting in July, Professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University in the UK confirmed it - the sun will begin its Maunder Minimum (Grand Solar Minimum) in 15 years. Other scientists had suggested years ago that this change was imminent, but Zharkova's model is said to have near-perfect accuracy. So what is a "solar minimum"? Our sun doesn't maintain a constant intensity. Instead, it cycles in spans of approximately 11 years....

SCIENTISTS claim we are in for a decade-long freeze as the sun slows down solar activity by up to 60 per cent. A team of European researchers have unveiled a scientific model showing that the Earth is likely to experience a “mini ice age” from 2030 to 2040 as a result of decreased solar activity. Their findings will infuriate environmental campaigners who argue by 2030 we could be facing increased sea levels and flooding due to glacial melt at the poles. However, at the National Astronomy Meeting in Wales, Northumbria University professor Valentina Zharkova said fluctuations an 11-year cycle of...

From the “settled science” department and former chief alarmist Jay Zwally, who for years had said the Arctic was in big trouble (only to have his prediction falsified), comes this Emily Litella moment in climate science: “Never mind!”. Curiously, WUWT reported back in 2012 about an ICEsat study by Zwally that said: ICESAT Data Shows Mass Gains of the Antarctic Ice Sheet Exceed Losses. I surmise that with the publication of this second study, the original is now confirmed. I suppose John Cook will have to revise his “Denial 101” video on Antarctica now. This map shows the rates of mass changes...

Well this is awkward. Just a month after former Aussie PM Tony Abbott openly questioned global warming data (and was 'replaced'), a new NASA study finds another inconvenient truth - Antarctica has been adding more ice than it's been losing, challenging other research, including that of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, that concludes that Earth’s southern continent is losing land ice overall. As Christian Science Monitor reports, In a paper published in the Journal of Glaciology on Friday, researchers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland in College Park, and the engineering firm Sigma Space...

Blowing snow caused all kinds of travel problems in the mountains late Tuesday afternoon. U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was closed because of poor weather conditions. Westbound I-70 at Vail Pass was closed for the same reason. Traffic was moving slowly throughout the I-70 corridor in the high country. The storm is good news for Loveland Ski Area, which opens Thursday morning.
