President Obama on Wednesday met with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an ally of the White House on gun control. The meeting, which was not on the president's public schedule, comes as he is weighing new executive action on guns in response to a series of mass shootings that have marred his presidency. On September 24 the gun control group founded by Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly used Pope Francis’s address to Congress as an opportunity to request a $3 donation from gun control supporters. HENRY CO., Va. -- Andy Parker has withdrawn his candidacy for a seat on the Henry County Board of Supervisors to focus on gun control. Andy Parker is the father of Alison Parker. WDBJ7's Adam Ward and Alison Parker were shot and killed Aug. 26. Parker said he will go to Washington D.C. next week to talk to lawmakers about gun control. Parker says one of his meetings is with Mark Kelly. Kelly is the former astronaut and husband of Arizona politician Gabby Giffords, who was shot in 2011.

Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week. Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. On June 16, North Carolina’s GOP-controlled house sided with Gabby Giffords and voted 78-37 to keep handgun purchasing restrictions in place for law-abiding North Carolinians. As recently as June 7—just four days after New Jersey’s Carol Bowne was stabbed to death while waiting for state permission to own a gun for self-defense—Breitbart News reported that Giffords & Co. were pushing to make sure North Carolinians had to continue seeking state permission for handgun purchases via a permit-to-purchase requirement which is very similar to the one in New Jersey.
