TAMPA-- MacDill AFB closed the Bayshore gate due to an "on-base incident" Monday night. Two people are in custody and are being questioned. The incident reportedly involved a vehicle that contained ammunition and guns.

TAMPA — An off-duty FBI agent shot and killed an Army veteran Wednesday night after a confrontation and chase at MacDill Air Force Base, officials said. It all started at the base's family camp, a recreational vehicle area at the south end of the base, said Col. Larry Martin, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander. The driver of a dark sport utility vehicle smashed into a gate outside Davis Monthan Air Force Base near South Swan Road Monday night, an official said. The SUV sustained front-end damage and the driver fled after ramming into the fence about 8:30 p.m. outside the entrance to the base at South Swan Road, said Tech Sgt. James Fisher, a base spokesman. The driver of a truck that ran a checkpoint at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on Tuesday had a loaded gun at his feet and what may have been cocaine in his pocket, Tucson police said Wednesday. The truck also reeked of alcohol when rescuers arrived to tend to the driver and passenger after they crashed into a metal road barrier that protects the air base from unauthorized entry.
