An Introduction to Free Republic First, Free Republic’s Web site is located here Free Republic. Free Republic presents itself as the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism. Let’s look around. I see some areas in the left and right borders. On the left are : Alliances Resource Links Media Links Legal Groups Political Links Government Links Military Links Now that’s impressive. Easy access to informative Web sites on a wide scale. Except for Alliances the groups are self-explanatory. I have been to Alamo-Girl.com and found an outstanding resource on an amazing array of topics. On the right are...

How Free Are You I have always enjoyed the many quotes Peter McWilliams included in “Ain’t Nobody’s Business if You Do” The book examines the folly of consensual crimes. I was researching a particular quote regarding freedom the other day when I heard of the NAACP insistence that the Federal government penalize the state of Missouri because of the actions of a rodeo clown. The quote I researched was : The real freedom of any individual can always be measured by the amount of responsibility which he must assume for his own welfare and security. ROBERT WELCH However, in the...

Just listening to Rush He is discussing the increase in people giving up US citizenship. I have thought about this as have many in my family. But where to go? Is it really an option politically and financially? Which culture would be the best fit for an ex-American citizen? What kind of legal hassles would result? Please be specific as to why you feel the country you state is the "best" country to immigrate to; political/social atmosphere, wage, social mobility, entrepreneurial opportunities, etc.

Clarke County public schools will take a pass on a new free-lunch-for-all federal program, at least for now. Under the “Healthy, Hunger-free Kids” act of 2010, school districts with high levels of students who qualify for free or reduced lunchroom prices can opt to offer free lunches to all students this year. The Clarke County School District easily qualifies. Since 2003, the percent of pupils in Clarke schools who qualify for free or reduced lunch has jumped from 64 percent in 2003 to 82 percent as of 2013. If Clarke entered the all-free-lunch program, schools and parents would no longer...

Hello Freepers. I’ve put a novel on Amazon.com and, if I’ve done it properly this time, it’s free through Saturday. It is fantasy and humor. I’d be grateful if you’d write something kind in the comments area. http://amzn.to/12doAeu (You can Google an app for your PC if you don’t have a Kindle or eBook, or, unlike my other novels, this one is short enough to print.) Your help is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Bern

Image by opensource.com Concerns are raised every once in a while in the broader free and open source software community about freeloaders. The attitude expressed is that if you're getting the benefit of FOSS, you should contribute. Building a business on a FOSS project you don't own, whether you're providing a service or product around a FOSS project should in return garner some sort of quid pro quo. In reality, freeloaders are desirable. I think we need to look through the other end of the telescope. The people most often concerned about freeloaders and the free ride are actually the ones...

PALMER — The Valley was picked as the location for the signing of several pieces of legislation Thursday. Gov. Sean Parnell, along with Sens. Charlie Huggins (R-Wasilla), Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage) and Mike Dunleavy (R-Mat-Su Valley), were among those present at a signing ceremony at the Matanuska Valley Sportsmen Shooting Range. Included in the signing ceremony: • House Bill 24, which adds Alaska to the list of states with so-called “stand-your-ground” laws; • House Bill 69, which says any federal laws that violate the Second Amendment are unenforceable in Alaska; • House Bill 83, which clarifies that a federal statute, regulation...

The Washington Free Beacon yesterday became the latest victim in a wave of cyber attacks targeting conservative news outlets. The Beacon, in what appears to be a coordinated assault, joined National Journal and radio station WTOP as a target after certain articles were featured on the Drudge Report, one of the most heavily trafficked and influential sites in the world. The Drudge Report itself has not been infiltrated. “There seems to be this concerted effort by this cyber criminal to take over news sites,” said Steve Ward, vice president of Invincea, the Internet security company that first identified the Free...

Prestige Assisted Living at Sierra Vista celebrates National Flag Week with an opportunity for local residents to exchange worn-out U.S. flags for new flags, free of charge, beginning June 10. Prestige invites the community to stop by and receive a brand-new American flag in exchange for worn-out or used flags throughout the week. The flag exchange is limited to the supply of flags at each location, and reservations are encouraged. To properly dispose of worn flags, Prestige has partnered with the American Legion for a ceremonial disposal of the retired flags at a later date. Funds raised through donations for...

If these aren’t the end times, I fear what those might look like. The country’s pioneering alt-weekly, New York City’s Village Voice, has experienced sharp decreases in ad revenue, circulation and staff in recent years. As the paper continues efforts to keep its head above water, a turnoverfilled May has perhaps sounded the paper’s figurative demise, suggesting that its literal end may come sooner than later. On May 9, the Voice’s parent company, Voice Media Group, informed editors of its plan to restructure the paper, which involved further staff cuts. Upon hearing the plans, Editor in Chief Will Bourne and...

RUSH: Let's go back to the Grooveyard of Forgotten Favorites, the archives. Here's Ken Rogulski, our man in Detroit at WJR, our blowtorch affiliate there. In October 2009, people were in line for money from Obama's stimulus, and Ken Rogulski went out and talked to 'em. ROGULSKI: Why are you here? WOMAN #1: To get some money. ROGULSKI: What kind of money? WOMAN #1: Obama money. ROGULSKI: Where's it coming from? WOMAN #1: Obama. ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get it? WOMAN #1: I don't know, his stash. I don't know. (laughter) I don't know where he got it from,...

Historian John Diers, author of the new book "St. Paul Union Depot," will be among the train enthusiasts who will welcome visitors to the Union Depot on Saturday, May 11. The newly refurbished Lowertown depot, which is expected to provide Amtrak passenger service by the end of the year, is celebrating Amtrak's "National Train Day" with free family activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Diers, who will deliver a presentation, will have copies of his book for sale. The Radio Disney road crew, a vintage bluegrass railroad band led by Cannonball Paul, storeowner Choo Choo Bob and the St....

You might credit the legendary Scottish male virility of past time to single malt whiskey, or the sometimes brutal weather, or the fact that haggis is the national dish, but a Dutch researcher is proposing another answer: It was the kilts. Kilts, worn as they were meant to be worn, without underwear, lets our laddies swing freely in the breeze, creating, according to researcher Erwin Kompanje, the “ideal physiological scrotal environment.” Exposed to the bracing Highland coolness, testicles will make robust sperm. The modern man’s “scrotal environment” is pretty confined these days, what with underwear and pants that hold our...

Every Fresh & Easy has been in the western U.S. Tesco seemed to want to avoid battling for customers with Walmart in its Midwest heartland, and also skipped over the East Coast, which is dense with shoppers and supermarkets alike. Instead, the approach was to primarily target neighborhood “food deserts,” which were sometimes in the literal deserts of Arizona, California, and Nevada.

Let me think about that....NO!A new ad campaign has been launched to extend medical coverage to illegal aliens in the state of California. The California Endowment, a private foundation that advocates for affordable healthcare, wants county-run Medicaid expansion programs called Low-Income Health Programs to be "retooled" to provide insurance for this population - well over 1 million people! Just what the people of California need, right? First they cut tuition assistance for citizen students by $1.2 billion. Then they made illegal aliens eligible for in-state tuition and financial aid, with AB131 - signed by Gov. Jerry Brown. Then tuition assistance was...

Washington: The United States and Japan on Friday agreed on language aimed at giving Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe political cover to bring the world’s third-largest economy into negotiations on a US-led free trade agreement in the Asia Pacific region. In a carefully worded statement following Abe’s meeting with President Barack Obama, the two countries reaffirmed that “all goods would subject to negotiation” if Japan joins the talks with the United States and 10 other countries. At the same time, the statement leaves open a possible outcome to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, talks where the Japan could still protect...

Hundreds of people were fighting eachother on the streets of Athens during a food giveaway, prompting an outcry over the growing desperation created by economic crisis. Farmers protesting against government cuts gave away 50 tonnes of free vegetables and fruit in the Greek capital earlier today, causing chaos in the streets as impoverished and hungry people elbowed their way to the stalls. Startling images of Greeks struggling to seize bags of tomatoes and leeks thrown from a truck outside the Agriculture Ministry have sparked further debate about poverty in the debt-ridden nation. ‘These images make me angry.

A graph prepared by an author and member of the state gun rights group Georgia Carry.org notes a marked increase in active killer events in spite of federal laws intended to help curb such incidents. GCO research staffer Michael Menkus, previously brought to the attention of Gun Rights Examiner readers as the author of “Guns Good Bans Bad - An Analysis of U.S. Department of Justice 2010 Crime Statistics,” recently completed a chart that demonstrates a quadrupling of these events (see photo accompanying this column). “Along with studying how changes in carry laws change crime rates, I also study Active...
