Hi Freepers. Is there a way to "not see" posts that I'm not interested in. Such as "Pope" or "Cologne Sex". Half of the posts I'm not interested in and would like to disregard with a keyword. Just a thought like a news clipper. Thanks for your response. Swen

Just wondering if this is just on my computer or not. It has been going on for several months now. I use Firefox on Win7. I couldn't find a tech support link.

The following is an imagined conversation between a liberal and conservative about guns, gun violence, and gun control that is meant to answer and address common questions and arguments liberals have on this subject. Liberals will look at this and say all I'm trying to do is make them look bad. I want to be very clear that I'm not trying. --- Liberal: Isn't it time to stand up to the NRA?Conservative: Name one mass shooter that was one of its members. Spoiler alert, there aren't any. The NRA fights to preserve the second amendment, and it promotes responsibility, so...

Seeing a lot of strange characters in some of the posts. Quotation marks, apostrophes, etc., are showing up as strange characters. I am currently using Firefox 42. Until the Source URL, I have linked a page here that displays the issue. For example, “ appears to be an open quote.

I don't know if this has impacted anybody else, but in recent weeks, I've noticed that HTML special characters are not rendering properly in HTML posts. For example, the character “ is rendering as “, the character †is rendering as â€ÂÂ, and so on. A screenshot of a typical thread is here: Needless to say, that is really irritating. There is a workaround for this: replace these special characters with their corresponding HTML codes. The ones that FR is currently having problems with are as follows: ‘ "left single quote" ‘ ’ "right single quote" ’ “ "left double...

It is as if Free Republic were typed on a typewriter missing an important letter. It hurts the eyes and is hard to read. Has it been addressed? Is it difficult to fix? What up with that?

Basically, google's full of crap. Apparently, they have two issues with FR. One is that a user (a long-time user not a hacker) posted a link to an image that (unknown to him) resides on a site google has registered in their database as a malware site. We've pulled the post and notified google. Have no idea when they'll stop flagging us. The other is that we have links to aim.org. NSS! Aim (Accuracy in Media) is a well known conservative site. Have no idea how many, but I'm sure we've had hundreds or even thousands of links posted to...

Jim, When I post I get a warning saying this is an attack site. I tried ot fix it, it sent me here: https://www.stopbadware.org/firefox?hl=en-US&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freerepublic.com%2Ffocus%2Fnews%2F3353942%2Fposts

After getting another attack site warning subsequent to telling Firefox to allow Free Republic, I went to the "Submit Badware" page and attempted to post the below wake up call. The site refused to let me post, saying my Captcha spam filter entry was incorrect a dozen times after I typed it in correctly a dozen times. This attack on Free Republic may be an illegitimate or Google rogue operation and should be looked into. ===== There is NO malware at this site. Take it off your badware list. Your miscategorizing of this conservative news site can be construed as...

Using Firefox, something has triggered the launch of a page declaring that the www.freerepublic.com site is on a list of "reported attack sites." Cancelling this dialog box page takes me to a page claiming to be that of some web public service organization tracking Google's listing of pages "reported" as "attack sites." Has happened twice. Here is the initial page which appears: Not shown here it the follow-up page with claims about Google's detection of these things.

I've had my user name for long time, going back to when GW Bush was running fro president. I've been an active user but no longer want to be associated with that username for obvious reasons. Is it possible to change it to something new without losing my history or being seen as a newcomer?

On 4/23/2007, Jim Robinson posted a manifesto, "Giuliani as the GOP presidential nominee would be a dagger in the heart of the conservative movement" (and a knife in the back) . The thread was subtitled, "The only difference in a Liberal Rudy Giuliani and Liberal Hillary Clinton is the fact of which bathrooms they select to use and there are some who are willing to even question that.

An observation about legitimately deleted threads, and the propensity for such thread starters to complain about deleted threads: When a thread is deleted, the only information about the deletion is by following a link to it - usually available only because the link was up just long enough to appear somewhere. Thing is: the thread creator is not notified, s/he just notices it's not there anymore - and if hadn't kept a link, it just disappears. So... can I suggest that when a moderator deletes a thread, the thread creator be notified (PM or Ping) of the fact and a...
