A Houston man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson at a mosque on Christmas Day. A spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed that the man was arrested early Wednesday, sometime after midnight, and appeared in court 7 a.m. Wednesday. HOUSTON, Texas -- Houston Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at a mosque in southwest Houston on Friday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate KHOU. A Southern California mosque was damaged by fire on Friday, and its leader said people there at the time believe it was intentionally set. Flames were reported just after noon at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The Council on American-Islamic Relations building in D.C. is currently under evacuation, after the office received an envelope filled with a suspicious substance. "We're all outside the building," says Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR's National Communications Director. The only exception: the several staffers who remain quarantined inside the building on New Jersey Avenue SE. D.C. Fire has responded to the scene with hazmat gear. "We receive threats on almost a daily basis, so it's nothing new for us," says Hooper. "But a suspicious substance—that's new. A 17-year-old Bowie High School student was arrested in connection with threatening posts made on social media against her school. Shalaria Jones was arrested Wednesday night and charged with making terroristic threats on Twitter using a fake account. Pretending to be a “white†student at Bowie, Jones posted three threatening tweets -- one including a picture of a handgun with a threat of a school shooting. The tweets caused a “chaotic scene†when as many as 300 students left school out of fear for their safety, according to an arrest warrant.
