They’re icing out rats in Battery Park City. Local maintenance crews are dumping dry ice in the pesky rodents’ burrows in the trendy Lower Manhattan neighborhood so that when it melts, it leaves behind carbon dioxide, which suffocates them. “Here in Battery Park City, we’re no stranger to having rodents, and so we wanted to make sure that we were able to manage them while keeping everything chemical-free,” Ryan Torres, vice president of parks operations at the Battery Park City Authority, recently told The Post. In addition to effectively killing rats, dry ice is hailed as an environmentally sound way...

Dry ice + a shot from a .50 BMG = mind blowing experience. I have always heard the term dry ice, but quite frankly have no clue what it is made of, where it comes from, or even what its main purposes are. Nor have I ever seen any dry ice. You may know all these things and think I am a very uninformed and unintelligent human, but I don’t care. So, when I came across this video, I was intrigued of what the result would be if you shot a huge block of dry ice (a foot and half)...

My family is traveling from Omaha to DC in July and I'd like to ship some steaks vs. shipping Omaha Steaks or similar products. My goal would be for them to travel with us on our direct flight. From my research, it's not worth the $50 to get my own freight account and going thru FedEx is outrageously expensive. Hoping Freepers may have ideas or thoughts.

Major cities in the U.S., including New York, Boston, Chicago, and others, began using dry ice several months ago in an effort to reduce rodent populations that had increased considerably after last year's warm winter, and it proved to be very effective. USA Today is reporting that in some cities, there has been a 95 percent reduction in the number of rodents using dry ice. The rather chilling extermination method involves dropping dry ice, frozen carbon dioxide, into rat burrows and then stuffing the openings with newspapers and dirt. As the dry ice melts, carbon dioxide gas is released, suffocating...

BRYAN, Texas (AP) - An 18-year-old ice cream vendor has been charged with injury to a child after being accused of burning several children by having them hold dry ice in their hands, police said. Roberto Martinez Sanchez, who sold ice cream from his bicycle, had apparently told several kids on April 20 that he would give them the frozen dessert for free if they could hold a piece of dry ice in their bare hands for 10 or 15 seconds, according to investigators. Dry ice is so cold it can freeze flesh, causing a burn-like injury. It is usually...
