Dry ice bombs have exploded for two successive nights in restricted areas at Los Angeles international airport, the world's sixth busiest.

Two other devices that were found on Monday night before they detonated appeared to have been placed outside the main terminal buildings in an area near planes, according to television news footage.

Detectives in America are investigating how the bombs, which consisted of water containers packed with dry ice, were planted in locations where access is barred to the public.

There’s a din on the horizon. Something very strange is in the air, and I’m afraid that it’s leading up to something big. There have been too many “off” stories in the news lately.

This plus reports of Middle Eastern men causing commotion on that DC-Orlando flight in Sept.

They keep practicing and probing our responses.

“were planted in locations where access is barred to the public.”

It’s a mystery batman!
The public isn’t allowed in there, so we obviously have NO IDEA who it COULD BE!
/ sarc off.
Start looking for muslims among the airport maintenance staff, ground handlers, or anyone with access to those areas, duh!
But that would be too hard.

Ok, how do water containers packed with dry ice “explode”? Sorry if that’s a dumb question.

True, never know when those nuns and children will go off on someone!

TSA is totally useless.
And saying anything about it will now get you charges.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. When the carbon dioxide ice thaws, it expands dramatically into its gaseous state. When the force of the gases exceeds the plastic water bottle’s ability to contain it, the bottle “explodes” with a big bang, which is not too terribly dangerous.

My daughter and I developed a dry ice cannon for a school science project. It would shoot the rubber cork about 15 feet using a piece of dry ice about the size of a quarter.

I’m guessing, as I didnt go look it up online, that as the dry ice melts the CO2 turning from solid to gas expands the bottle and eventually the bottle ruptures.

Just a guess.

Now if they were wrapped with nails it might work at very close range.

Actually farts are more dangerous as they contain Methane,a greenhouse gas.
CO2 at least feeds trees

The basic idea is to drop a small jelly bean sized piece of dry ice into a two liter plastic coke bottle with a small amount of water on the bottom. The CO2 evolved of course makes it explode. Although generally harmless, they are LOUD, and could probably cause permanent hearing damage in an enclosed area like a restroom and generally scare the crap out of people.

Can’t believe the top just didn’t blow off that bottle. I thought they were designed to do that.
