Director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford will make a fifth “Indiana Jones” film, to screen July 19, 2019, Disney announced Tuesday. The release from the studio describes “a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series,” adding: “Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn called the Jones character “one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history,” adding, “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role,...

FULL TITLE: Kelly: With a pair of bolt cutters and sense of indignation, custodian cuts down what flies in church On the first morning of the 31st annual Cathedral Flower Festival, with its theme of “A Night at the Movies,” an agitated church custodian made a bold move. Mark Kenney, 59, who grew up in the parish, had worked at St. Cecilia Cathedral for three years. Around 8 a.m. on Jan. 29, he went to a work shed, picked up a pair of heavy-duty bolt cutters and ascended to a catwalk high above the mostly empty nave, or main sanctuary....

The line-up for Donald Trump’s Sunday rally in Alabama includes victims of the immigration and guest-worker policies favored by Sen. Marco Rubio. The speakers include two of Rubio’s constituents who were victims of the H-1B outsourcing program, as well as Chris Crane, president of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council. This rally comes on the heels of a bombshell New York Times report documenting how Rupert Murdoch and Fox News colluded with Rubio to minimize public opposition to the passage of Rubio’s amnesty and guest-worker expansion bill that was backed by President Barack Obama...

Disneyland, California Adventure will be opening a new attraction soon, called, "Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters." I can honestly say that this looks like the very worst "ride" I have ever seen in my life. What is the point? They aren't bumper cars, in fact, I don't know what they are. Disney phoned this one in. Disney world has Star Wars land and Avatar Land coming out soon, and I bet they will be amazing- but California Adventure, it just seems like they've given up.
  • Disney Introduces Demand-Based Pricing at Theme Parks

For the first time, tickets to Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California will cost more during holidays and some weekends — up to 20 percent more — than during slower periods, as the bursting-at-the-seams parks seek to spread out demand. The Walt Disney Company unveiled its long-expected move to demand-based pricing in a blog post on Saturday. The seasonal changes, which take effect on Sunday, affect the two theme park resorts differently and apply only to single-day tickets and not the multiday packages that the majority of vacationing families buy, particularly at Disney World.

A Disney IT worker who was laid off and replaced by foreign workers along with hundreds of his colleagues broke down in tears before a Senate panel Thursday while telling his story. “During the holiday season of 2014, I was sent a meeting invitation by a prominent Disney executive. With an excellent review in hand along with company announcements of record profits my mind buzzed with thoughts of a promotion or a bonus,” Leo Perrero, the former Disney worker testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest. “I walked into a small conference room with about two...

Solar panels contain toxic, hazardous materials and there are no regulations in North Carolina on how to dispose of them. Also, there are no plans in place to deal with what could happen if a storm destroyed a solar facility. The Environmental Review Commission met last week and began a discussion about the toxic materials in solar panels, what to do with expired solar panels and what to do in the event of an accident or natural disaster involving a solar facility. Chaired by Sen. Trudy Wade (R-Guilford), the commission heard from Tom Reeder, NC Department of Environmental Quality assistant...

“I’m doing this because I don’t like bullies,” Dena Moore says, explaining why she— as one of the American Disney workers who was laid off and forced to train her low-wage H-1B foreign replacement— is now launching a discrimination lawsuit against the corporation. “You can’t let a bully continue to be the bully. Someone had to say: ‘Slavery isn’t right, I think I’ll stand up against it.’ Someone had to say: ‘We shouldn’t [mistreat] our women. I think I’ll stand up.’ Someone had to stand up. That’s what I’m hoping that my work is doing. There’s a lot of people...

House Speaker Paul Ryan indicated Wednesday he thinks Disney's decision to fire American workers last year and force them to train their foreign replacements is about offshoring. The story of the layoffs grabbed national attention and resulted in a federal investigation into businesses accused of using the H-1b visa program to import foreign workers at the expense of equally qualified American workers. But Ryan indicated he thinks the story is about offshoring American jobs in an interview with talk radio host Laura Ingraham Wednesday. "Let's clean up our tax laws so Disney doesn't make moves like that," Ryan said when Ingraham brought up the...

Anyone trying to understand why Donald Trump always has thought New Hampshire would be friendlier to him than Iowa should put aside the polls for a moment and focus on what each state's Republican voters are putting on their Spotify playlists. According to data for the week ending Feb. 1, Iowa Republicans can't stop listening to "This Is Amazing Grace" by Christian rocker Phil Wickham, which opens with the verse: "Who breaks the power of sin and darkness/Whose love is mighty and so much stronger/The King of Glory, the King above all kings." Republicans in New Hampshire, meanwhile, prefer "Idle...

Disney just posted the best quarterly earnings in the company's history. So why was its stock down more than 4% in after-hours trading? Four letters: ESPN. The Burbank, Calif. entertainment giant on Tuesday posted earnings of $1.63 per share, or $2.9 billion in total, for the quarter ending Jan. 2, beating analysts' expectations of $1.45 per share. The massive haul came in large part thanks to The Force Awakens, which has now grossed more than $2 billion globally, not to mention massive amounts of merchandising and licensing revenue. Disney's movie studio division made $1 billion in profit all by itself,...

Eight stabbing victims were hospitalized and six suspects were in custody Sunday following a predawn melee that police were investigating as gang-related. Officers responded to a 1:23 a.m. report of a stabbing incident on the 500 block of East Sycamore Street, Anaheim Police Sgt. Ben Starke said. Police found eight stab victims -- a group of males and females -- and obtained a description of a white Toyota Camry last seen escaping eastbound. As the call went out, one of the responding officers spotted the suspect vehicle and called for backup. Multiple units surrounded the car at Lincoln Avenue and...

The Happiest Place on Earth can only remain so by bracing against the possibility of children being mowed down by assault weapons as they await a turn on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster. Walt Disney World, along with other major theme parks, just caved to the threat of a mass shooting. Visitors recently were greeted with newly installed metal detectors or handheld wands at the entrance gates. The theme parks have long patted bags, and security in the past has found visitors attempting to tote their guns along on their day of fun.

A lovely big British family, off to the place where magic happens and Mickey Mouse makes dreams comes true. Disney Parks have installed metal detectors and banned the sale of toy guns and costumes for anyone over the age of 14, as of Thursday. So much for my wife and I packing the Chip and Dale costumes for our big trip. E! News reports the measure will be taken "through the rest of the holiday season," but it isn't clear whether the changes would stay in effect afterward. A man was arrested last weekend for trying to bring a gun into Disney World, according to the Orlando Sentinel, which quoted a statement from Disney saying, "We continually review our

UPDATE: Various sites are reporting that Disneyland has begun installing metal detectors at the Anaheim parks as well. Universal Studios Hollywood will also install metal detectors, according to the Orange County Register. The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim made a few changes to its rules overnight Thursday, Dec. 17, according to fan site Dateline Disneyland. Two new rules were updated on the Disneyland park rules website: guests over the age of 14 will not be allowed to wear costumes and toy guns are now prohibited from the resort.
