The Capitol was placed on lockdown for second day on Tuesday as authorities responded to a suspicious package, authorities said. U.S. Capitol Police said a suspicious package was found but did not elaborate. A Reuters witness reported a bomb squad was on the scene.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has proposed closing the family homeless shelter at DC General due to its inadequate conditions, and replacing them with smaller shelters in 7 of the City's 8 wards. While many agree with closing DC General in its current form, the Mayor's plan to relocate the 260 affected families is irresponsible.
