Aren’t judges, especially Supreme Court Justices, supposed to be impartial? “(Trump) is a faker,” she told CNN in an interview from her chambers.“He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego. … How has he gotten away with not turning over his tax returns? Today, the last day before the new Star Wars movie is seen by millions, and this theory is presumably destroyed, I would like to take the occasion and point out that there is one simple realization that will remove all of the alleged plot holes in Star Wars: Darth Vader is the hero. First, you have to realize that the Jedi are at best ambiguously good. The Galactic Republic is supposed to be, at least on the highest levels, a democracy, but it is more like the United Nations than the early United States: slavery flourishes, monarchies abound, and the...

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says the wisdom of "Star Wars" can be applied to the campaign trail."An important question to ask of any presidential candidate is which 'Star Wars' figure would you be? And I got to say, anyone who says Luke Skywalker ought to be eliminated right off the bat. The only right answer to that is Han Solo," joked Cruz at a campaign stop in Bettendorf, Iowa.Cruz called Han Solo the "coolest character in all of cinema" and said that he's loved "Star Wars" since he was a boy."I grew up on 'Star Wars,'" Cruz said. Dick Cheney is reminding Republicans that they need to defend themselves when attacked. When President Obama released the Justice Department interrogation memos a month ago, Cheney denounced him for doing so. He explained why it was inappropriate and unwise to release such documents. But he did more. He didn't just defend himself and the administration in which he served. He fought back, and encouraged others to do so. So while some Hill Republicans were fretting about getting a positive message out and others were launching substance-free listening tours, while GOP operatives were wringing their hands about whether Republicans could recover...

On the February 20 edition of the Early Show, Evan Thomas, assistant managing editor at Newsweek, told Harry Smith that "People who don’t like [Cheney] think this is the dark, Darth Vader type." His analysis coincided with the new issue of Newsweek that features a cover story, written by Thomas, on "Cheney’s Secret World." As soon as John Kerry announced his choice of John Edwards as his running mate last week, the contrast was unavoidable. This autumn, Edwards, a telegenic, bubbly lawyer who looks 40, will go up against Big Daddy Cheney, the bald, dour, snarling vice-president whose most recent public pronouncement was to tell a leading Democratic senator to “go f*** yourself”. Edwards is a Southerner from a modest background, but he is also a member of the new class — a multi-millionaire trial lawyer with a fiercely independent career woman for a wife. Cheney is from Wyoming, one of the most beautiful...

I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.) Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people. I’m reassured—indeed, encouraged—indeed, buoyed!—by this morning's Politico article, "GOP pros fret over Paul Ryan." "GOP pros" are the stupidest part of "the stupid party." For one thing, they're not very professional—why are they using the press to take shots at the Ryan pick in the first place? For another, they're cowardly—“nearly all the Republican professionals interviewed for this story said they would share their unfiltered views only 'on background' rules of attribution." Most of all, they're a terrific contrarian indicator. When "GOP pros" are most full of fear and apprehension about Republican prospects—for example, Reagan in 1980, Gingrich in 1994,...

There was a powerful description given by Pope Emeritus Benedict to describe the modern stance of a world that has abandoned any notion of objective truth to which it is accountable. The phrase was “The tyranny of relativism.”In effect the expression describes what happens when there is no standard outside ourselves to which reasonable people can and should appeal in order to square their views or opinions. In such a setting, appeals to reason and agreed upon standards cannot hold the day and resolve disputes. Thus who “wins”? Whose view prevails? The sad answer is that those with the most money,...

You can now get Star Wars character voices for your TomTom. Check out this video of Darth Vader in the recording studio as he records directions for the TomTom. I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan and I’m especially not a fan of Darth Vader. However, I love amazing advertising and marketing buzz. And to think, I didn’t even know it was Star Wars Day. Didn't even know there was such a thing.

As you sit reading this, former Vice President Cheney is on a two month surge of popularity. President Barack Obama, on the other hand, is doing his best Wile E. Coyote impression with no brakes on the rocket car, and has just careened over the edge of the fifty-foot cliff. So what has boosted the former Vice President anywhere from 8-10%, while watching the President nose dive 11-14%?

Barack Obama, unlike George Bush who wanted to be in bed before 10pm, likes to work late. But even by his standards Wednesday was out of the ordinary, sitting up in a largely empty White House until 2.30am as he edited a speech an adviser later described as one of the most important of his life. He was still nervous about it when he rose to deliver it eight hours later. Normally Mr Cool, he fluffed his opening, referring to the defence secretary, Robert Gates, as Bill, the Microsoft founder. Part of the explanation for the bout of jitters is...

In the 1980s, while the west towers were construction, Washington National Cathedral held a decorative sculpture competition for children. Word of the competition was spread nationwide through National Geographic World Magazine. The third-place winner was Christopher Rader, with his drawing of that fearful villain, Darth Vader. The fierce head was sculpted by Jay Hall Carpenter, carved by Patrick J. Plunkett, and placed high upon the northwest tower of the Cathedral.

A man posing as Darth Vader attacked a Star Wars fan, who had founded a Jedi Church, a court has heard. Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, from Holyhead, Anglesey, admitted assaulting Barney Jones and cousin Michael with a metal crutch. They suffered minor injuries. Hughes, who was drunk and dressed in a black bin bag, shouted "Darth Vader!" Earlier, when Hughes failed to arrive on time, District Judge Andrew Shaw issued an arrest warrant, adding: "I hope the force will soon be with him." In the event, Hughes turned up and the case at Holyhead magistrates court resumed. The court heard...

ABC News' Jennifer Duck Reports: The Vice President's dogs may beat the President's dogs in the best dressed category this Halloween. Late night TV shows have ridiculed and compared Vice President Dick Cheney to Darth Vader. So in a wicked response, Cheney dressed one of his dogs, Jackson, as the famous Star Wars character. Cheney's other Labrador retriever, Dave, is dressed up as superman. The canine costume may also be a jab at Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. In September after the Democratic-led Congress failed to persuade congressional Republicans to force the President to change course in Iraq...
