It is often said that in the future, jobs that were once done by humans could eventually be taken over by robots who are admittedly more efficient due to their lack of the need to rest, take breaks, and sleep. While there are some jobs that are obvious in terms of robots being better at it, there are some that are less obvious, such as the job of a programmer. However a Danish startup by the name of Ulzard Technologies IVS could change that, thanks to their development of AI dubbed pix2code that can help to program applications based on...

Washington mavens have a new parlour game called “impeachment & removal“. The game is all about devising new and innovative ways of putting President Donald Trump out to grass. But Trump has danced with Saudi leaders, eaten chocolate cake with Xi Jinping and burgers with Netanyahu, played golf with Abe and been blessed by the Pope. In a few weeks, it will be his turn to get the Modi hug. India has watched with apprehension as the Trump administration moved from being....

Debbie Wasserman Schultz used her position on a committee that oversees the budget of the Capitol Hill police to attend a budget hearing and question the police chief about a laptop she says the police should return to her. When the police chief said he couldn’t return it, Wasserman Schultz suggested there would be “consequences.” From the Daily Caller: “My understanding is the the Capitol Police is not able to confiscate Members’ equipment when the Member is not under investigation,” Wasserman Schultz said in the annual police budget hearing of the House Committee On Appropriations’ Legislative Branch Subcommittee. “We can’t...

Ahhh, the resource is back. As popular as the Drudge website is, I never have and still don't like the format. Don't know if this is a resolvable computer problem. I've always had two desktops. One was for recording all TV shows that I would then watch without commercials. It was also the backup to the primary desktop but the machine recording video failed sometime last year. Tried to have it fixed to no avail. Got a replacement (refurbished) and put the primary disk drive in and up it came. This was in the shop where they take care of...

North Korea is so isolated that rather than bring the Internet to its hackers, it brings them to it—in a swank hotel in China. The luxury hotel that has been called a command post for North Korean hackers would make for a unique holiday getaway and give you lots to talk about back home. “Surprisingly Great Hotel - Clean, Tasteful.... and North Korean!” says a trip advisor review for the Chilbosan Hotel in Shenyang, China. For just $53, you get “a deluxe twin room,” including a North Korean breakfast considerably more substantial than those enjoyed by the vast majority of...

People still play the original StarCraft, a real-time strategy game that first came out in 1998. Now, the intergalactic war game is getting a major face-lift, the game's developer, Blizzard, announced Sunday."StarCraft: Remastered" will preserve the gameplay of the original 1998 title, but the new title will update its aging graphics and audio and will ensure better compatibility with modern computers, the company said. "Gameplay and balance have been precisely preserved," Blizzard said in a statement. Preserving the gameplay is important for this remake because the original StarCraft is still played as an e-sport, especially in South Korea.
  • Trump administration warns companies on H-1B visas: Hire Americans over foreign guest workers

The Justice and Homeland Security departments issued startling warnings Monday to companies applying for the country’s most prominent foreign guest-worker program, telling executives to look for Americans to fill those jobs first and promising more investigations and prosecutions of businesses that abuse the system. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is part of the Homeland Security Department, also released rules on Friday that could curtail the number of computer programmers who get H-1B visas, designated for specialty occupations that American companies have a tough time filling.

(Image: USBKill) Remember that USB stick that would destroy almost anything in its path, from laptops, photo booths, kiosks, to even cars? Now there's a new version, and it's even more dangerous than before. In case you missed it the first time around, a Hong Kong-based company built a weaponized pocket-sized USB stick, which when plugged into a device, will rapidly charge its capacitors from the USB power supply and then discharge, frying the affected device's circuits. Dubbed the USB Kill stick, it fries almost...
  • It’s the 1940s again: IBM’s Scott Crowder on the infancy of quantum computers

IBM Q isn’t vaporware. It’s a project years-in-the-making that could help quantum computation reach its massive potential. The future of quantum computers may arrive sooner than you think. When news arrived of IBM’s move to offer the first commercially available universal quantum computer last week, it was characterized as a “handoff” from IBM Research to IBM Systems. According to the company’s CTO and vice president of quantum computing, technical strategy, and systems, Scott Crowder, that’s not entirely the case. “It’s not quite a ‘handoff,’ it’s really a partnership,” explained Crowder. “This is definitely a transition point from it being pure...
  • IBM somehow crammed data into a single atom

In the never-ending quest to improve computing technology, IBM has just taken a big step smaller: It's found a way to store data on a single atom. A hard drive today takes about 100,000 atoms to store a single bit of data -- a 1 or 0. The IBM Research results announced Wednesday show how much more densely it might someday be possible to cram information. How much more densely? Today, you can fit your personal music library into a storage device the size of a penny. With IBM's technique, you could fit Apple's entire music catalog of 26 million...

A young Emirati and a UAE based American nuclear chemist have developed what they claim is 'the next big thing in technology.' Mohammed Al Fahim, 29, and Dr. Lary A Burchfield, 65 - both working for the Nawah Energy Corporation - claimed their new theory of combining graphite with diamond has led to the discovery of a new molecule that acts like a semi-conductor. "Building a computer out of this will make the machine a millions times more powerful. Hence the discovery has the potential to change human lives," said Dr. Burchfield, Head of Environmental Radiochemistry Lab, at Nawah. He...

Accenture said on Friday it would create 15,000 jobs in the United States, as IT services firms brace for a more protectionist U.S. technology visa program under President Donald Trump. The company is domiciled in Dublin, Ireland, but a majority of its more than 380,000 employees are in India. IT services companies came under the spotlight after Trump said that his administration would focus on creating more jobs for U.S. workers, who had been affected by the outsourcing of jobs abroad. Major IT service companies, particularly those based in India, use H-1B visas to fly engineers to the United States...
