Donald Trump's campaign is planning its biggest ad buy to date — upward of $10 million on commercials airing over the next week or so. The campaign is expects the ads to air as soon as Monday in nine swing states: Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida, where the campaign has already been on the air, along with New Hampshire, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada. 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney lost eight of those nine states. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has so far been badly outspent by his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, and groups supporting her....

The Navajo Nation sued the agency over the spill last week after the EPA inspector general and the Justice Department opened a criminal investigation into the incident a few days before the Aug. 5 anniversary of the 2015 spill. Anyone with a smartphone can become a Colorado voter First the Left flipped Colorado from a solid Republican red state to solid Democrat blue. Now the Left is opening the floodgates in the Centennial State to massive voter fraud. On the advice of left-wing pressure groups, Colorado Secretary of State Wayne W. Williams, allegedly a Republican, has decided to let anyone with a smartphone become a Colorado voter. Just text a word to Williams’ office and you’ll be given an opportunity to register to vote. (These online documents disappear eventually so I made a PDF for posterity. Read it here.)

Colorado’s labor department has ruled that more than 100 Muslim workers fired from a Cargill meatpacking plant are eligible for unemployment benefits because a company cannot force workers to choose between their religion and their jobs. The workers filed for unemployment payments after they were fired in December by Cargill Meat Solutions, amid a dispute over whether the Muslim employees could take prayer breaks during their shifts. Cargill challenged the claims, but the company withdrew its appeals this summer after losing 20 cases, officials with the state Department of Labor said. ... the payments could cost Colorado’s unemployment fund nearly...

A 5-year-old boy trying to save his mother during a robbery offered the only thing he had: $1. Three armed, masked men burst into the living room of their Colorado Springs home demanding money from his mother, Courtney Beaudette, according to court records. When she said she didn't have any, the men told her to strip. She took off her shirt but refused to go further, the documents said. Amid the chaos, Beaudette's son ran to his room to retrieve the only money he had, a single dollar bill, the report said. Then the gun went off. ... Michael Ryan...

DENVER (Reuters) - Federal investigators said on Monday they have opened a criminal probe into the 2015 spill of some 3 million gallons (11 million liters) of toxic wastewater from a defunct Colorado gold mine that was triggered by a contractor with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). At the urging of congressional leaders, the EPA's Office of Inspector General is investigating the rupture from the Gold King Mine above Silverton, Colorado, that fouled waterways in three states and Native American lands, the agency said in a statement. Jim Gilbreath and his fellow Colorado delegates came to the Republican National Convention “praying for a miracle,” hoping the rules might go their way and allow for a “white knight” candidate to take the place of Donald Trump. As he headed home to Colorado Springs on Saturday afternoon at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, he told WND that while his party has confirmed Trump as the nominee, he and many others in his delegation are not on board. “I can tell you that from the Colorado contingent, there will be quite a few people who will not be out helping Trump,”...

Rocky Mountain Health Plans of Grand Junction is being sold to UnitedHealth, the nation's biggest health insurer. The Daily Sentinel reports (http://goo.gl/UldBjJ ) that Rocky Mountain's president and CEO says the company decided to sell to restore its capital base. Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Darryl Glenn says he was defending his mother against an abusive father in a 1983 altercation that led to a misdemeanor assault charge against Glenn. Glenn, the Republican challenger to Democrat Michael Bennet, had previously denied he was arrested when asked about the charge by The Denver Post, which reported his statement on Thursday. The charge against the then-18-year-old Glenn was dropped. Glenn said he did not remember the incident until he spoke this week to his mother about it.

The good people of Colorado must be smoking something these days. That’s the only explanation for the decision by 156,000 of the state’s more than 3 million registered voters to endorse a November ballot initiative that would create a statewide single-payer health care system. Patients in single-payer systems elsewhere must withstand low-quality care and long wait times. To fund all that failure, they pay sky-high taxes. If Colorado’s voters approve this single-payer measure at the polls this fall, they’ll experience these realities firsthand. Single-payer systems control costs by using government power to ration care. In Canada, where I grew up,...

Something very courageous happened at a recent Douglas County commissioners’ hearing. Colorado Community Media reported that at a June 28 hearing, Commissioners Roger Partridge and David Weaver voted “no” to accepting federal Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies. In the past, CDBG funds have been distributed to a variety of nonprofit and non-governmental entities throughout Douglas County. Both commissioners voiced their concerns of the far-reaching rules, regulations and compliance requirements hidden deep within HUD’s updated CDBG application. Included in HUD’s application are two things that should cause each of us to pause. The first is the...
