The good people of Colorado must be smoking something these days.
Thats the only explanation for the decision by 156,000 of the states more than 3 million registered voters to endorse a November ballot initiative that would create a statewide single-payer health care system.
Patients in single-payer systems elsewhere must withstand low-quality care and long wait times. To fund all that failure, they pay sky-high taxes. If Colorados voters approve this single-payer measure at the polls this fall, theyll experience these realities firsthand.
Single-payer systems control costs by using government power to ration care.
In Canada, where I grew up, patients have to wait four-and-a-half months, on average, to receive treatment from a specialist after getting a referral from a primary-care doctor. Many who want or need the most cutting-edge technology and procedures come to the United States and pay out of pocket rather than suffer in line.
In Britains single-payer system, one in five cancer patients has to wait more than two months to start treatment. Delays even plague ambulance and emergency room services. Recently, junior doctors fed up with low pay went on strike, which may have contributed to at least one death.
Socialized medicine has failed in the United States, too. Just look at the Veterans Health Administration. Patients have died waiting for appointments. And the brilliant bureaucrats behind the VAs new hospital in Aurora have exceeded their budget by more than 400 percent.

In case you want to CO ping about this looming disaster.
Single payer can work - IF taxes are high enough AND people are willing to wait and to do without to promote equality.
Both of these factors are absent in the United States.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
If this passes, I’m definitely moving to another state, and quickly too before property values drop as everyone tries to sell out and leave.
Colorado and everyone in it are Toast. Too bad, it’s a gem of a state. The upside is after they are all dead or living in squalor land will be cheap.
I will leave too. Probably Wyoming.
“I will leave too. Probably Wyoming.”
I’ll probably move to South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, or mountainous region of North Carolina.
[Single payer can work - IF]
Nonsense. ... IF ...
o You are immoral
o You care less about hurting children
o You do not care if loved ones die of cancer, and heart disease
o You forego critical care, replaced with trivial runny noses
Single payer is monopoly failure. Always.
Buy a house and lose money after the election if it passes.
It is polling well and likely to pass from what I hear. It does not help that insurance companies want a 30% hike next year making single payer much cheaper.
history...doomed to be repeated
“The upside is after they are all dead or living in squalor land will be cheap.”
It really was about the nicest place in the country to call home up until the late 80s. And land was cheap.
It’s a steaming mess now.
This is why the founding fathers were against "mobocracy" (democracy): there are too many stupid people voting - people who should never have been given the right to vote (including BOTH men and women). Universal suffrage is a disaster.
