Do you remember back in the 2008 election when Barack Obama derisively said: "... and you go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, like a lot of small towns in the midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they’ve gone through the Clinton admininistration and the Bush administration and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter and they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them...

Abandoned pet found on road with broken bones and deep bite marks Thrown from car after being used as bait for blood-thirsty killer dogs Somehow avoided traffic, but still broke leg and punctured lung Rescued by two animal lovers who took £3,000 loan to pay for his surgery Twisted dog-fighters got rid of a whippet used for baiting killer devil dogs by throwing it from a car at 50mph on a packed motorway. I am in the process of hiring some candidates for some job positions. It's incredible what a wonderful resource FaceBook has been in helping me screen candidates and not waste my time interviewing (God forbid hiring) many candidates. Ms. Smith: a cover letter showing enthusiasm. Resume shows relevant experience. I check out FaceBook. She has neon blue hair and a nose ring. NOPE! Ms. Dow: A perfectly written cover letter highlighting how she's a fit for the job. The resume reinforces this. A trip to Facebook shows "B****es will F**** your man!" is the first statement she has posted on...

BOSTON (AP) -- For the first time in court, Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev dropped his blank, impassive demeanor and cried as his sobbing aunt briefly took the stand Monday in his federal death penalty trial. Tsarnaev, 21, wiped tears from his eyes quickly and fidgeted in his chair as his mother's sister sobbed uncontrollably. He had maintained a disinterested expression since his trial began in January. The aunt, Patimat Suleimanova, cried as she sat down about 10 feet from Tsarnaev. The tears began falling before she began to testify, and she was only able to answer questions about her...

I've looked and been unable to find any news story that says whether the six cops who were involved in moving Mr. Grey were Black, White, Hispanic (or, I suppose, other). It's my understanding that five of the six have given statements to the investigators and one, presumably for Fifth Amendment reasons, hasn't. The race of the cops is obviously relevant but i haven't seen anything that says what race(s) they are. The wisdom and knowledge of all Freepers will be gratefully accepted.

On a bright and breezy Sunday, this picturesque beach town became a fantasyland for motorheads dreaming that a souped-up car, sexy motorcycle or vintage warplane can take them anywhere -- even into the past or future.

Washington Post music critic Chris Richards wrote up Saturday’s Earth Day festivities on the national Mall on the front of Monday’s Style section. The headline was “At Earth Day rally, it was the message that needed saving.” Richards liked the music, but didn’t like the talking. For example: “The event’s hosts, newscaster Soledad O’Brien and Black Eyed Peas bandleader Will.I.Am, appeared to have a rough time of it. O’Brien, either frustrated by glitchy teleprompters or perhaps not clear on how a concert works, actually shushed the crowd at one point.”
