The numbers: U.S. wholesale prices showed a mild increase in August and reinforced the idea the rate of inflation is returning to low prepandemic levels. The moderate increase in wholesale costs follows a similarly mild rise in consumer prices last month. With inflation slowing, the Federal Reserve is widely expected to cut interest rates next week. I didn't know how to post without having a link so I apologize. I have to be honest, for most of my life (in sales), the harder I worked, generally the more money I made....more on that later. We are savers---putting in 401K, stocks, mutual funds, some precious metals, have property. We had no debt (except our mortgage----2.3% and under $100K). Recently we had a few things---our son's wedding, property taxes (up another $800 this year) car tires needing to be replaced, air conditioner crapped out, cost of food, gas, utilities, etc. We ALWAYS pay off any debt immediately but...

My Aunt Ethel died and today is her memorial service. She was a month or so older than 101. She was the last in a family series of sisters and husbands and brothers. She was not really my aunt, but the foster sister of my mother. Ethel was like my mother and father, a child of the depression.
