President Donald Trump plans to name Larry Kudlow as his top economic advisor, sources told CNBC. Trump could announce his decision to choose Kudlow as his National Economic Council director as soon as Thursday. The president offered the economist and senior CNBC contributor the job on Tuesday night, and Kudlow accepted, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC. North Korea launched a ballistic missile on Friday, the Pentagon confirmed. It was not immediately known if the missile, which was expected to land in the Sea of Japan, was an intercontinental ballistic missile or another type of rocket. “I can confirm that we detected a launch of a ballistic missile from North Korea," Pentagon spokesman Capt. The launch, which occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Eastern time, had been expected by U.S. analysts who initially believed the launch date would be Thursday -- the 64th anniversary of the...

Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Susan Collins (Maine) and John McCain (Ariz.) joined all 48 members of the Democratic caucus in rejecting the resolution under the Congressional Review Act (CRA).

The US government has given half a billion dollars to the UN’s Green Climate Fund, just three days before Donald Trump takes office. Barack Obama’s outgoing administration announced the contribution of $500m (£406m; €468m) on Tuesday, bringing the total funds to date to $1bn. Mr Obama pledged in 2014 to give $3bn to help tackle the effects of climate change in the poorest countries. Mr Trump has previously called global warming a hoax. The president-elect has also threatened to pull the US out of the Paris accord – a global agreement on curbing greenhouse gas emissions – and America’s commitment...

I HAVE FIVE KEY MESSAGES I WANT TO GO THROUGH BRIEFLY AND THEN TAKE QUESTIONS. FIRST, PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP IS A UNIQUE, HISTORIC FIGURE WORTHY OF STUDY IN HIS OWN RIGHT. SECOND, THE TRUMPISM IS A BOLD AND PROFOUNDLY DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING THAT NEEDS CODIFICATION AND DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ACTION. THIRD, THE COMBINATION OF INERTIA AND RELENTLESS HOSTILITY OF THE LEFT WILL CHALLENGE THE VERY SURVIVAL OF TRUMPISM. FOURTH, MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR TRUMPISM TO SUCCEED. FOR US TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP THE IDEAS, WHEN THE ARGUMENTS AT CITY COUNCIL AND COUNTY COMMISSION, SCHOOL BOARDS ACROSS...

The U.S. Geological Survey says it has found the largest continuous oil and gas deposit ever discovered in the United States. On Tuesday, the USGS announced that a swath of West Texas known as the Wolfcamp shale contains 20 billion barrels of oil and 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That is nearly three times more petroleum than the agency found in North Dakota's Bakken shale in 2013. As NPR's Jeff Brady reported, the amount of oil in the Wolfcamp shale formation is nearly three times the amount of petroleum products used by the entire country in a year....

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Florida is known to be a battleground state for presidential elections, and Hillsborough County may be the determining factor. Hillsborough County’s majority vote has predicted the winner of the presidential election 19 out of the last 20 elections, according to political analysts. The county’s balance of registered democrats, republicans, and independents makes the county one to watch; likely why both the Trump and Clinton campaigns have made multiple stops to Tampa Bay in the past few weeks – with more visits this week.
