The Bruins blanked Vancouver 4-0 Wednesday night for their first NHL title since 1972. They had lost their last five Stanley Cup finals appearances since then. (June 15)" So says the brief write-up from the AP video presentation. Not only was history made, but also a major American city, Boston now has become the new title town with the Stanley Cup coming home at last. Congrats to the NHL's Boston Bruins for winning at last, after nearly forty years, the Stanley Cup. Boston, now IMHO, the new "title town" sharing with the Boston Red Soxs, Celtics, and the New England...

VANCOUVER, BC. - Despite some awful reports concerning the way Canucks fans were treated in Boston, the die-hard fans are expected to return for game six. Marie emailed News1130 to say the only place she wasn't harassed while in Boston was inside her hotel room. She says a group of teenage boys were verbally aggressive, and one Bruins fan even tried to shove his fingers in her mouth at TD Garden. (See her email below) The Green Men expected to be heckled in Boston, but Sully says some Bruins fans took it a bit far. "Game 4 was a little...

Stanley Cup scuffle: Vancouver Canucks left-wing Alex Burrows is taken down by Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and defenseman Dennis Seidenberg in game four of the NHL play-off finals. It was a pretty even start in Boston last night, but Rich Peverley and Brad Marchand took over in the second and third and Boston continued to throw Vancouver for a loop last night. The Night that Was:All of a sudden, after the series looked so close and so tightly knit in Vancouver, the Stanley Cup Final seems to be firmly in the Boston Bruins’ control. Boston got things going partway...

Last night the Boston Bruins blew out the Vancouver Canucks for the second straight game. But while the series might now be even at two games apiece, the series is anything but even. In sports, one of the best indicators of how good (or bad) a team really is, is to look at that team's goal/run/points differential. That is, the difference between the number of points they have scored and the number of points they have allowed. The bigger the difference, the better a team is. And in the NHL playoffs, the results so far tell us that the Canucks...

You might have been hard-pressed to find a hockey expert who thought the Bruins [team stats] were a more skilled team than Vancouver before these Stanley Cup finals began. But hockey is also a game of emotion and, boy, did the Canucks ever stir those emotions in the B’s during Game 3 last night at the Garden. After Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome knocked Nathan Horton out of the game with a blatant, scary shot to the head early in the first period, a shaken B’s team finally got off the mat and buried the Canucks with a second period full...

Police open investigation of hit by Bruins playerBy HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports Writer 11 hours, 30 minutes ago BOSTON (AP) - Montreal police started a criminal investigation Thursday into the on-ice hit by Boston’s Zdeno Chara that left the Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty with a severe concussion and cracked vertebra. Police said they are acting on a request by Quebec’s director of criminal and penal prosecutions, Louis Dionne. After evidence is collected, it will be determined if there are grounds for prosecution, they said. But Pacioretty said he doesn’t want Chara prosecuted. “I sincerely appreciate all of the support that I...

Listened to the Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens game tonight on WBZ radio; as Rene Rancourt (I believe) started to sing the Star Spangled Banner, a huge chorus of boos could be heard during the song. At the start of Oh Canada there was a cheer, but no disrespect. I know of the long rivalry between the two teams. But how rude to boo the U.S. national anthem--why, you'd think the folks up North wouldn't do that anymore--since we have The One in office. Heck, I can't see us booing Oh Canada during a Bruins-Canadiens game at TD BankNorth Garden,...

Receivers coach Eric Scott arrested after complaint in Norwalk; he has been lauded for his success as a recruiter. Eric Scott, the UCLA football assistant arrested on suspicion of felony residential burglary, had been sentenced for three other crimes before being hired in March to coach Bruins receivers. UCLA put Scott, 32, on paid administrative leave Wednesday, one day after his arrest. Coach Karl Dorrell also acknowledged in a statement that the school knew about the former Crenshaw High player and coach's criminal background when it hired him. Scott's record includes two incidents of illegally carrying a concealed weapon and...

Now this is truly a football game the city of Los Angeles could love. The battle between the Bruins and Trojans is in many ways a bizarre, weird, excessive testosterone festival with big stakes and over-the-top emotions. It's everything the City of Angels is. In a place obsessed with image, trendiness, physical beauty, and maximum entertainment value, this year's battle for the Victory Bell will certainly capture the imagination of Angelino culture. This game is the sort of larger-than-large uber-spectacle that Hollywood thrives on. It's so big a game that it doesn't really feel like a regular-season finale. It's as...

Hi all this is my first and hopefully longest post http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/news/articles.asp?id=33203 A great thing happened at UCLA today. The same UCLA that has been labeled “liberal” and considered by many to be liberal bastion. Bruin United easily swept into power winning 7 of the 11 voting spots on the student council with 2 more to be determined in runoffs next week (president and external vice president). This victory ended the Student Power/First 11 year’s reign of terror on our student body. With the potential to win 9 out 11 spots and cement an unstoppable voting block, I will be first...
