Receivers coach Eric Scott arrested after complaint in Norwalk; he has been lauded for his success as a recruiter.
Eric Scott, the UCLA football assistant arrested on suspicion of felony residential burglary, had been sentenced for three other crimes before being hired in March to coach Bruins receivers.
UCLA put Scott, 32, on paid administrative leave Wednesday, one day after his arrest. Coach Karl Dorrell also acknowledged in a statement that the school knew about the former Crenshaw High player and coach's criminal background when it hired him.
Scott's record includes two incidents of illegally carrying a concealed weapon and one case of disturbing the peace, dating to 1996.

I found this.
Interesting to note that Coach Dorrell did not care that he hired someone with a criminal background.
Class act.
Old story. No charges were ever filed and Scott is back on the job. Besides, the Bruins need him to bolster their recruiting efforts in the ‘hood.
Here is a follow up: UCLA Coach reinstated
So being convicted of three misdemeanors including carrying concealed weapons is acceptable to the UCLA coaching staff and administration.
When you set your standards low, you can always reach them.
I’m not condoning the hiring of Scott, I just added the tongue-in-cheek comment about the Bruins needing him for their recruiting efforts in the ‘hood, since the Trojans have been wiping up the floor locally in the recruiting wars. As for USC’s McNair, I heard he was fined $25K for “animal neglect” on 2 separate occasions. What is it about football and dogs?
Good point. But I think it starts at the bottom and works it's way up. The decision to hire this guy was made by Coach Dorell and approved by the UCLA administration. I am not sure how many other schools would be willing to hire someone with a crimminal record, but I am certain that the NCAA should not be investigating the backgrounds of every staff member hired into all athletic programs. That would be a monumental undertaking.
Perhaps there are extenuating circumstances that Coach Dorrell is aware of that has not come to light. But then when faced with what he is, I guess lowering your standards is to be expected.
I know, I did not take that way. You were right, it is a bit of an old story and one that seems to have gotten little attention outside of LA.
Kind of like UCLA football, of late.
;)
First of all he wasn’t charged with anything, and as a result was reinstated by UCLA. Secondly two of the three “criminal” acts in his past were carrying without a CCW permit in a state where it’s notoriously difficult to get one. ....certainly not something I blame him for, especially in that crime-infested hellhole of a town.
That was duly noted in post four.
Crenshaw High says it all. ‘Nuff for me.
Reluctantly, it appears. ...and only after being called on it.
The USC vs. UCLA rivalry I think is the greatest Cross Town rivalry in the country, as both teams have had a high level of athletic excellence over the years. I have now gone to 23 USC-UCLA games in a row and have seen both the ups and the downs.
The biggest 'downer' for me of late though has been the deterioration of the USC fan's in terms of language and abusive comments directed at UCLA fans. Years ago it was predominantly the bruin fans that had lowered themselves to vicious and 'pornographic' type of attacks against USC.
Now, both sides seem about equal in their viciousness. I attribute much of these types of attacks though at those who have jumped on the USC bandwagon in the last few years.
Get serious.
Seven minutes after he posted the comment I replied and in doing so even included a link which I searched for (that took a few of those seven minutes).
You posted a month-old article about his arrest without mentioning the fact that all charges had been dropped and that he’d been reinstated. .....until called on it. Very weak. But par for the course for a Trojan fan.
The USC arrest was 12 years ago. I note you have no comment on that.
Well, That was kind of the point of my post...
....or even know about it, for that matter?
Well, if you had read the post to begin with you would have known about it.
Do you always post without reading the post and initial comments? If so, it does have a tendency to make one look foolish and ignorant of facts already stated.
But par for the course for a Trojan fan.
So, the personal attacks start?
