    Deutsche Welle ^ | 04/01/2016 | Irene Banos Ruiz
Construction on a bike highway — hoped to connect communities to make high-speed, emissions-free commuting possible — is underway in Germany. But with funding in question, will this bikers’ dream still come true? […] The cost-benefit relation presented by the RVR is optimistic: Benefits equal nearly five times more than costs. Figures indicate the bike autobahn would save €11.5 million yearly on medical expenses due to the health benefits of greater physical activity and reduced pollution, while it would also save €6.3 million through prevented accidents. But money is lacking to complete the project, estimated at €184 million. For the...

Cyclists are usually drawn to the road for its views and 1,500-foot climb to Skyline Boulevard. "This is one of my favorite hill climbs," Michael Shorts said. But riders, who are now being warned to pay close attention to the sidewalks, are afraid they...

(CNN) -- "He never asked nor accepted any reward, because he was good and simple and did not think that one did good for a reward." (Primo Levi, If This Is A Man) Gino Bartali wanted to keep it to himself. How could a man, so famous and so revered, keep it a secret for so long? "Good is something you do, not something you talk about," Bartali once explained. "Some medals are pinned to your soul, not to your jacket." He was Italy's very own version of Babe Ruth -- a man whose personality, character and success transcended sport....

Even his fellow “Tridorks” and “Freds” are turning on him. Cyclists are racing online to rage against speed demon Jason Marshall — and show their support for the tragic victim he mowed down in Central Park. As Jill Tarlov, 59, remained on life support from her massive head injuries at an Upper East Side hospital, cyclists took to blogs and Twitter to jeer Marshall for slamming his $4,000 racing bike into the Connecticut mother of two on Thursday at a West Drive intersection. Some insiders blasted Marshall as a triathlon-obsessed “Tridork,” and a “Fred,” both derogatory terms for Lycra-clad cyclists...

Road safety campaigners have accused a leading neurosurgeon of putting lives at risk after he claimed cyclists who wear helmets were wasting their time. Henry Marsh, who works at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London, said many of his patients who had been involved in bike accidents had been wearing helmets that were “too flimsy” to be beneficial. Mr Marsh cited evidence from the University of Bath which suggested that wearing a helmet might even put cyclists at greater risk. It showed that drivers got around three inches closer to cyclists who wore helmets because they perceived them to be...

Bicycles offer us a quick way to move around, and if you know what you're doing and where you are going, they can be very stealthy. They give us options for carrying gear on racks and saddle bags, or even in trailers. A good bike will carry you over a variety of terrain, whether paved or not. They are easy to maintain, can be stored in a number of locations, and can be hidden fairly easily, when need be. Most importantly, with a little skill, their maneuverability will help you dodge even the stickiest of situations. Let's suppose I have...
