Seven-Year-Old Swede Cycles to Berlin
The Local ^ | 24 Jul 2014

Edvin Blomdahl is seven-years-old. He also cycled from Sweden to Berlin, a journey of 370 kilometres, in four days.

"We actually thought we would take a week to make the trip, but then we didn't have time. We thought we might have to take the train for part of it," the boy's mother, Linda Blomdahl Petersson, told The Local.

"But then on the first day we biked 103 kilometres, and we thought, 'This may actually work'. When we booked the trip it felt like a half crazy idea."

The family took their bikes to the Swedish town of Trelleborg, cycled onto a ferry to Rostock - and began the trek.

Their most recent biking adventure was on Öland, but the journey was much shorter.

"On Öland we only biked three kilometres a day," seven-year-old Edvin Blomdahl told The Local. "But we biked 103 kilometres on the first day, and 99 on the second day."

After that Blomdahl lost track. But when The Local asked if it was difficult or wearisome, his response was clear: "It was just fun to cycle."

Blomdahl learned to bike when he was just over three years old, and now at the ripe age of seven, he also blogs about his trips.

"I blog about all of my trips," the boy told The Local. "I blogged a little today too."

His mum, a teacher, is not bothered by the occasional spelling mistakes: "It's a great experience for him, and I'm glad he thinks it's fun to write."

Little sister Emma was also along for the ride, though the 5-year-old took a back seat. Linda Blomdahl added that it may be a couple of years before the entire family makes such a trip again, as Emma is too small to bike on her own but getting too big for the bike seat.

"But we all had fun. The kids loved it."

That’s 230 miles in 4 days, or a little less than 60 miles a day. Not bad, they must be pretty fit.
