(CNN) -- "He never asked nor accepted any reward, because he was good and simple and did not think that one did good for a reward." (Primo Levi, If This Is A Man) Gino Bartali wanted to keep it to himself. How could a man, so famous and so revered, keep it a secret for so long? "Good is something you do, not something you talk about," Bartali once explained. "Some medals are pinned to your soul, not to your jacket." He was Italy's very own version of Babe Ruth -- a man whose personality, character and success transcended sport....

Road safety campaigners have accused a leading neurosurgeon of putting lives at risk after he claimed cyclists who wear helmets were wasting their time. Henry Marsh, who works at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London, said many of his patients who had been involved in bike accidents had been wearing helmets that were “too flimsy” to be beneficial. Bicycles offer us a quick way to move around, and if you know what you're doing and where you are going, they can be very stealthy. They give us options for carrying gear on racks and saddle bags, or even in trailers. A good bike will carry you over a variety of terrain, whether paved or not. They are easy to maintain, can be stored in a number of locations, and can be hidden fairly easily, when need be. Most importantly, with a little skill, their maneuverability will help you dodge even the stickiest of situations. Let's suppose I have...

Criminologist: 'More Youngsters Killed in Bicycle Accidents' Than with Guns Responding to a recent report that Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDA) and Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) conducted about the dangers of guns in public schools, Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox said the annual risk of gun-related death in school is "well below one in two million," and "many times more youngsters are killed annually in bicycle accidents."
