On September 10, the Missouri Senate voted to override Governor Jay Nixon's (D) veto of SB 656--the legislation to allow schools to train teachers to become "School Protection Officers" and carry guns with which to protect children on campus. SB 656 also allows people who possess a concealed carry permit (CCW) to openly carry firearms, and it lowers the legal age for a CCW from 21 to 19. The override passed by a margin of 23 to 8. A house vote is set for September 11, where the veto is expected to be overturned.

Hunting in the United States is an extremely safe sport, much safer than swimming, football, baseball, or soccer.   Accidents are rare.   Accidents involving five year olds are rarer still.   When they happen, they make national news. In Humble, Texas, a five year old accidentally shot himself while he accompanied his 11 year old brother who was hunting dove. Yesterday Panera Bread became another restaurant establishment asking customers to leave their guns at home, joining eateries like Chilis, Starbucks and stores like Target after pressure from anti-gun groups. MAQUOKETA, Iowa- A former city manager who came to a Jackson County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday to dispute his property taxes opened fire, resulting in his death, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Francis "Gus" Glaser, 71, a former Maquoketa city manager and Maquoketa resident, was dead after a shot to the head, according to Jackson County Sheriff Russ Kettmann in a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
