Alabama lawmakers are preparing for the day when Roe v. Wade is overturned. Abortion will not become illegal immediately when Roe is overturned; instead, the power to legislate abortion will return to the states. On Thursday, the Alabama House passed a bill that would protect unborn babies’ right to life in the event that Roe is overturned; legislators voted 67-14 in favor of the measure, Alabama Media Group reports. The Associated Press reports the bill would amend the state constitution to declare Alabama a “right to life” state. If the bill passes the state Senate, the amendment also would have...

A DeKalb County theater will not be showing the new "Beauty and the Beast" film when it is released because it features a gay character. The Henagar Drive-In Theatre posted on its Facebook page Thursday night that it would not show the film when it is released later this month, due to it featuring Disney's first gay character. "If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it," a post on the theater's Facebook page said. The theater has since deleted its Facebook page.

Protests breaking out at GOP town hall meetings could stop Republican lawmakers from fully repealing the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) said on Thursday. "I don't know if we're going to be able to repeal Obamacare now because these folks who support Obamacare are very active," Brooks said during an interview on "The Morning Show with Toni and Gary" radio program, highlighted by CNN. "They're putting pressure on congressmen and there's not a counter-effort to steel the spine of some of these congressmen in tossup districts around the country," he continued. Brooks said that Republican lawmakers might not...

New Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall on Wednesday officially recused himself from an investigation of Gov. Robert Bentley. The recusal confirms that the attorney general's office is investigating the governor. In a Wednesday afternoon statement, Marshall said he met with the Special Prosecutions Division of the Attorney General's Office concerning a possible investigation into Bentley and decided to recuse himself. Former Montgomery County District Attorney Ellen Brooks was appointed to serve as the district attorney leading the Bentley investigation. When asked for comment on the investigation, Bentley's attorney Bill Athanas released this statement to AL.com: "Given the ongoing investigation, it...

MONTGOMERY, ALA. The Alabama House of Representatives voted Tuesday to block state funds to colleges and universities that declare themselves so-called sanctuary campuses for immigrants in the country illegally. House members voted 72-28 for the bill to authorize the attorney general to block state funds to colleges that do not follow state and federal immigration law. The measure now moves to the Alabama Senate. Rep. Phil Williams, the bill's sponsor, acknowledged no Alabama college has announced intent to flout immigration laws but argued that one might do so in the future. He said the state should be proactive instead of...

“We’ve seen a huge spike in anti-Muslim attacks in the last year,” claims Khaula Hadeed. In reality, FBI hate crimes statistics show that anti-Semitic hate crimes are two times more common than anti-Muslim hate crimes. And then there all the anti-Muslim hate crimes that turn out to have been faked by Muslims themselves.Hadeed works for the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case — so named by the Justice Department. CAIR officials have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hizballah as terrorist groups. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes...

These new jobs will push the company over the 1,000 mark. Additionally,...

Coretta Scott King, the widow of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., urged Congress in a letter to block the 1986 nomination of Jeff Sessions for federal judge, saying that allowing him to join the federal bench would “irreparably damage the work of my husband.” The letter, previously unavailable publicly, was obtained on Tuesday by The Washington Post. (Read the full letter below) “Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens should not be elevated to our courts,” King wrote in the...

  • Alabama's Luther Strange Offered Senate Appointment Advice by Roland Burris

Perhaps better than any living American politician, former Sen. Roland Burris can sympathize with Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, who is being considered for a Senate appointment expected soon from a scandal-plagued governor. The Illinois Democrat, formerly a state attorney general himself, re-entered public office with a 2008 appointment to President Barack Obama's empty Senate seat. Then-Illinois governor and current prison inmate Rod Blagojevich had been arrested for trying to sell Obama's seat and, in saying yes, Burris lacquered himself with the scandal's taint. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is not accused of trying to sell the Senate seat being vacated...

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is weighing the appeal of President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration, is the federal appeals court conservatives have long ridiculed as the "nutty 9th" or the "9th Circus." Covering a huge swath of territory — nine western states plus Guam — the San Francisco-based court handles far more cases than any other federal appeals court, including some rulings that have invoked furor from conservatives over the years. Among them: finding that the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional, that the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays...

One place it has been done is Butler County, Alabama Some cities and counties in the U.S. are avoiding the cost of repaving roads by converting them to unpaved roads. Among the municipalities in the report is Butler County Alabama, which is listed as having 250 Miles of unpaved roads and spending- $4-Million a year on roads. The county officials say the decision to covert a road from paved to unpaved was made because it was the most cost effective way to deal with a problem road. The report does not identify the road. In some cases, officials just let...
