U.S. customs officials in Cincinnati recently seized 530 pounds of illicit narcotics and other controlled substances in a shipment originating from China, which had a street value of over $2 million. The cargo also contained other illicit goods such as counterfeit products and prohibited food items. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the seizure in a press release on June 26. Research is mixed as to whether universal background check requirements can reduce gun violence. Some studies have found that UBCs can reduce gun violence and violent crime generally. But other research has found that these policies haven’t led to reductions in gun violence, even after being in place for several years. Remington Arms, America’s oldest gun maker, is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is in advanced talks for a potential sale to the Navajo Nation, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
