A masked man with a gun and ammunition belt opened fire in a cinema complex in the small western German town of Viernheim, near Frankfurt, injuring between 20 and 50 people and barricaded himself inside, German media reported on Thursday.

Republicans could learn a thing or two from their Democrat colleagues – now they know how to not lose! Just say NO! Refuse to leave until you get your way.As is often the case with politicians, cats can best illustrate the basic differences.Republican cat faces its political enemy:Democrat cat, dealing with his political enemy:Butt now the conundrum: the 4th of July is coming up and many of these elected officials have parade commitments back in their districts. So don’t expect many of them to remain in the Capital Hill sandbox throughout the 4th of July break, I doubt that any...

MATEEN: "I shot up the Pulse Club because I am a member of ISIS." LYNCH: "No you're not." MATEEN:"Wait, what? Yes I am..." LYNCH: "No, this has nothing to do with Muslim terrorism. I have no idea why you did this, but it wasn't radical Islam." MATEEN: "WHAT!? Did you even read what I told the 911 operator? I gave explicit Quranic justification. This is jihad, a holy crusade against pagans, blasphemers, and homosexuals." LYNCH: "No, this is definitely not a Muslim thing. You are not a true Muslim, and you defame a great religion by saying so." MATEEN: "Huh!?...

Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., called for a revision of the Second Amendment during Wednesday's "sit-in" on the House floor, which has shut down the House while Democrats demand a vote on gun control legislation. "The Second Amendment needs some changing, because Americans don't agree with it and we've had it," Doyle shouted on the House floor. "We're not going to watch any more people in this country get slaughtered and do nothing." House Democrats are occupying the well of the floor in order to demand a vote on gun control legislation, such as a ban on weapons sales to people...

President Barack Obama plans to make smart gun technology a primary part of his push to control firearms, but an expert warns that the new high-tech weaponry poses a danger to constitutional rights—and he’s not talking about the Second Amendment. In April, Obama posed the question, “If we can set it up so you can’t unlock your phone unless you’ve got the right fingerprint, why can’t we do the same thing for our guns?” Obama released a presidential memorandum requiring three departments to push smart gun research—the departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense. The memo also entices the industry...

Stephen Colbert was angrier than usual with the Senate after they failed to pass any of the proposed gun control bills this week. The Late Show host had a hard time believing that they couldn’t come together on something that so many Americans agree on, saying, “Ninety-two percent of Americans want to expand background checks for gun buyers, and you just ignore them. Since when does 8 percent of the population get to have total control of an issue?”

Following the terror attack in Orlando, the dominant media/political narrative turned to gun control and now-discredited claims of the suspect's mental illness (claims which included gay-baiting).Now, one controversial former FBI agent -- and current consultant to the Obama administration on "countering violent extremism" (CVE) -- is suggesting a national gun registry be created. Such a registry would target millions of law-abiding American citizens. Gamal Abdel-Hafiz, born in Cairo, immigrated to the U.S. in 1990. He recently retired from the FBI after 22 turbulent years at the bureau. Following the Orlando attack, Abdel-Hafiz explained his rationale for creating a national...

Attorney General Loretta Lynch told Florida’s LGBT community that the “most effective” weapon at America’s disposal against Islamic terrorism is “love.” Mrs. Lynch told reporters in Orlando on Tuesday that an ongoing investigation will determine the precise motive for 29-year-old Omar Mateen’s June 12 massacre at Pulse, a gay nightclub. Mateen, a former security guard, called 911 and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group while killing 49 people and wounding 53 others.

I’ve been in New York this morning to attend a meeting organized by Dr. Ben Carson and others who invited Donald J. Trump to speak to evangelical Christian leaders from across the country. Governor Mike Huckabee was moderator and Mr. Trump answered questions on a wide range of issues. Dr. James Dobson asked the first question–he asked Mr. Trump what he would do concerning religious liberty issues. Mr. Trump said the number one thing he could do for religious liberty would be to appoint great Supreme Court justices and he reminded everyone that the next president could appoint up to...

Attorney General Loretta Lynch overruled FBI Director James B. Comey on Thursday, saying the Obama administration does support a ban on firearms sales to those on terrorist watch lists. Mr. Comey last year had told Congress that the ban could end up alerting suspected terrorists that they are being investigated, and that could “blow” the cases his agents are trying to build. But his superiors at the Justice Department rejected that, issuing a statement Thursday saying they want to see Congress approve the “no-fly, no-buy” plan Democrats are pursuing. “The amendment gives the Justice Department an important additional tool to...

Sunday on NBC’s meet the Press,” in commenting on the gun control push in the wake of the Orlando, FL mass shooting terror attack last weekend, Attorney General Loretta Lynch argued to have the “tools” to stop those from obtaining guns “who should not have them.”

In March, a white award-winning broadcast news anchor in Pittsburgh posted on her professional Facebook page what she claimed was a heartfelt call to action on the perceived black-on-black crime epidemic in the United States, particularly in the city she’d covered for almost 20 years. The post came two weeks after she covered a mass shooting at a backyard barbecue that left four people injured and six dead, including a pregnant woman, in Wilkinsburg, a majority black borough. The district attorney called the heinous crime calculated, planned and one of the “most brutal” he had seen in his 18-year tenure.

Senators on Tuesday rolled out a bipartisan bill aimed at stopping suspected terrorists from buying a gun, as lawmakers try to overcome a stalemate on the issue. "Essentially we believe that if you are too dangerous to fly on an airplane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun," Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told reporters. The legislation would allow the attorney general to block the sale of a gun if an individual is on the "no-fly" list or the so-called "selectee" list, which requires additional screening at an airport. Collins said the two lists affect approximately 109,000 people, most...

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a Second Amendment challenge to a Connecticut law banning many semiautomatic rifles. The law, enacted in 2013 following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., made it a crime to sell or possess the firearms, which critics call assault weapons. The decision not to hear the case, not long after the mass shooting in Orlando, Fla., does not set a Supreme Court precedent. But it is part of a trend in which the justices have given at least tacit approval to broad gun-control laws in states and localities...

On Facebook Tuesday, the 67-year-old singer posted a fake video of Bernie Sanders shooting Hillary Clinton. The video includes a clip from a Democratic debate where Clinton was quoting a statistic that “90 people on average a day are killed” because of gun violence. Her Democratic opponent chuckles before pulling out a handgun and shooting Clinton. “I got your guncontrol right here bitch!” Nugent captioned the video. More than 8,000 people have “liked” the post so far.

Following the Orlando terror attack, Professor Ahmad Nofal of the University of Jordan said in his weekly program that gunman Omar Mateen was a "sick personality" with "perverse tendencies" and that "[homosexuality] is controlled and imposed upon the world by global Zionism, Allah's number one enemy on Earth." Professor Nofal added that Mateen "evoked the Western model of heroism," represented in the massacre of Native Americans. His address aired on the Jordanian Yarmouk TV channel on June 17. Ahmad Nofal: "(Omar Mateen) is a dramatic character that requires a film - a Hitchcock-style horror movie, like 'Psycho' from over 50...

The entire purpose of my satirical piece demanding the immediate defunding of Planned Parenthood and reconsideration of the Supreme Court's gay marriage ruling "as a result of" the Orlando terrorist attack was to promote fact-based rationality in policymaking, even in the wake -- or especially in the wake -- of a terrible event.  "Public policy should be crafted based on evidence and empiricism, ever mindful of the constitution, even when it's politically inconvenient. Our discourse should encourage thoughtful disagreement, not seek to squelch it by serially impugning others' motives.  Our analysis of stomach-turning violent instances should be rooted in reality and fact, not shoe-horned into pre-existing ideological narratives," my author's note...

Surely murder is a serious subject, which ought to be examined seriously. Instead, it is almost always examined politically in the context of gun control controversies, with stock arguments on both sides that have remained the same for decades. And most of those arguments are irrelevant to the central question: Do tighter gun control laws reduce the murder rate? That is not an esoteric question, nor one for which no empirical evidence is available. Think about it. We have 50 states, each with its own gun control laws, and many of those laws have gotten either tighter or looser over...

Cultural relativity, it will be the death of us, literally:Because, you know, Islam is the religion of peace and is therefore as valid as Christianity. How did cultural relativism come to replace critical thinking in America? Maybe it started when the curriculum was dumbed down to the point of replacing math courses with “diversity studies.” “What,” you say? “That would never happen? Certainly not at the 4th largest public university in the state of Michigan.” A faculty committee has proposed adding a three credit hours requirement in diversity to the general education curriculum at Wayne State University. It also recommended...
