As regrettable and infuriating as this is, it wasn’t entirely unforeseeable. There have been many recent reports of Mexican bandits patrolling the Mexican side of the lake looking for Americans to rob. Until this, the victims were fishermen, which makes some sense. You’re more likely to be carrying valuables on a boat as opposed as to when you are on a personal watercraft.

That’s not suggesting it was the victims’ fault. However, nobody who is paying the slightest attention to border violence should think going into Mexican waters was a good idea. I don’t think hikers in Iraq or sportsmen at Falcon Lake should go anywhere near the border.

Has anyone ever seen Lisa Murkowski smile? Even a painfully pretend smile?

She doesn’t stand a prayer of winning as a write-in, so you have to wonder how mentally ill she has become. Someone may be telling her that it’s possible, but that someone is also in denial about losing his/her job.

If she gets 3% of the vote, I’ll be surprised.

I appreciate your response, but it’s not a revelation that Objectivism has some differences from the Judeo-Christian religion. Those have been explored in the past, and it certainly does not hurt to continue to do so.

My point is that the interjection of this discussion into the context of the Tea Party is not helpful to the core reasons for the existence and goals of the Tea Party.

If you and I see the immediate need to work together to rescue an accident victim, it’s a very bad time to first start arguing the merits of why my opinion of the college football overtime rules is superior to your assertion that those in the NFL are better. That may be an interesting and relevant discussion, but it threatens the more important goal.

Let’s save the accident victim first.

This essay seems almost an insidious attempt to splinter the Tea Party movement into factions of religious conservatives versus more secular fiscal conservatives.

The movement has largely been a reaction to the Obama agenda, based primarily on fiscal matters, and national security, not social conservative issues. On the other hand, I have not witnessed any of the Tea Party organizers rejecting the participation of social or religious conservatives.

So why do an essay trying to divide them into camps?

Beck doesn’t know what a Fascist is. For that, he can be forgiven because it’s been deliberately misidentified almost from the start.

It’s not a rightwing ideology. It’s more like militant socialism on a nationalist framework.

But it is nearly as far left as communism. It’s more of a cousin.

I don’t think being fair is much of a consideration here.

Cornyn is a good man. The committee made the recommendation too soon and Cornyn realizes it. There’s not a heck of a lot he can do about it.

Read between the lines of what he said. We could do FAR worse than John Cornyn in the Senate.

Liz Cheney is articulate and impressive. If she holds views contrary to mine, I haven’t seen her raise them yet.

I don’t want a government run college football playoff systemn any more than I want a government run health care system.

It’s going to be an interesting dilemma for the Democrats. A vote to pass the bill now is suicide for November, yet it’s also a very risky long term vote.

Without Republican support, every little thing that goes wrong for anybody in the future regarding this program can be laid at the feet of the Democrats.

You can’t do that with the frustrating post office, or even Social Security or Medicare.

They will own this one, and a vote might not just be political suicide for the candidates in November. It’s something that their party might not survive.

Atheism and conservatism are two separate things, unless you’re talking about the social conservative wing of the
GOP.

Conservatism and religion don’t really have that much in connection, except that we make it so. The concepts are largely unrelated.

If you read the resolution, it authorizes us to ask if we can inspect, something we could have done without a resolution.

That's probably true, altbough they really won't be able to fill it in with the professional obituary/tribute that Jackson will get.

Personally, I feel sorry for Fawcett, and I think the world might be a better place without MJ.

That's just cold, heartless me, and I will not argue with anyone who will miss his musical talent, which was unquestionable.

But this does not rise to even Buddy Holly or Jim Croce status in terms of being cut down in a career. The best stuff Jackson did was at least 20 years ago, and there was nothing new on the horizon.

He was really really weired. I don't think that is in disupte, either. He was almost a Marilyn Monroe kind of icon. He knocked Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, and anyone else who decided to die this week right out of the newspaper.
