My Angel is named John. When I was very young I am convinced I spoke to him. He’s awesome and always there when I need him.

Last day? Well there are 11 mentions of the last days in the New Testament. None of them can be place outside of the first century with the end of the old covenant age in AD 70. Start with Acts 2 and Hebrews 1. See my blog www.prophecyquestions.wordpress.com.

Historically, the Catholic Church has never looked forward to the "second coming." According to its doctrine, the messianic advent and the "messianic kingdom" occurred two thousand years ago ("spiritually" and non-literally). The Catholic Church claims to be the only "messianic kingdom" that will ever exist. The only thing the "second coming" will do is burn the world up.

Fundamentalist Protestants, of course, attribute this antipathy to the "second coming" to a bad conscience, to an inner awareness that they're going to be punished badly for deviating from "true" chrstianity. This is the same attitude all forms of chrstianity attribute to Judaism vis a vis the "first advent." Ironic, huh?

Too much is confused in this paragraph to know how to discern the irony of it. Sounds educated and smart, but isn't really. Just your opinion.

You completely don't know what you're talking about.

Well, at least I got the "the 'second coming' is a horrible thing 'cause the world's gonna be burned to a crisp" part right, didn't I? '-)

On the contrary. The rejection of a literal messianic Kingdom of G-d on earth is about as dogmatic and uncontroversial a doctrine one can find in all the ancient churches. The Jewish rejection of J*sus is blamed on the Jews expecting a literal Davidic restoration and J*sus wasn't going to give them one (because the "kingdom of G-d" is a metaphor for the Catholic/Orthodox Church).

Rejection of literal messianism is the one issue which unites Catholics/Orthodox across the political spectrum. With all the turmoil in both churches, neither has any messianists because the concept is rejected so thoroughly. The Left rejects it because it makes "working for social justice" seem superfluous while the Right tends to blame the idea of a literal messianic kingdom on earth for Marxism. The only fulfillment promised by the ancient churches is the "beatific vision" in heaven.

At the appearing again of Lord Jesus Christ? No. Apparently the days are shortened to avoid that from happening.

Later on, in say a thousand years, the Earth and the heavens are all to be destroyed by fire. Then is seen the appearance of the new heaven and the new Earth.

What one believes about Christ depends on who one listens to and believes. Lots of folks out there already saying "I am Christ" or things like "The Catholic church is Christ."

At the clearest, we are looking through a smoked-up lens.

Sorry, I apologize. I forgot there's no good that comes from conversing with you on FR. You know it all.

I don’t know my angel’s name but Mr. Mercat knows his angel’s name. LeRoy rescued him after an accident. I’ve met him too. He drives a nondescript silver car.

It's certainly true that we reject messianism as Jews understand it. If we didn't, we'd be Jews.

But you said a bit more than that, recall. For example, "The only thing the "second coming" will do is burn the world up". That's false. There's a little matter of the bodily resurrection of the dead, the general judgement, and the advent of a new heavens and a new earth.

“None of them can be place outside of the first century with the end of the old covenant age in AD 70.”

The general resurrection of the dead has not happened and yet Jesus said it would happen on the Last Day. Thus, the Last Day is “outside of the first century”.

Historically, the Catholic Church has never looked forward to the “second coming.” ??

From the creed Catholics recite every mass:

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

According to its doctrine, the messianic advent and the “messianic kingdom” occurred two thousand years ago (”spiritually” and non-literally).

I’m not a Catholic apologist, just a Biblical apologist, so I need help here. Could you please show me in the Catechism where this sentence is substantiated, and then in the Scriptures where it is contrary?
