The Ark: Could Noah's Tale Be True?
http://www.livescience.com ^ | March 28, 2014 | Benjamin Radford

The new film "Noah" stars Russell Crowe as the man chosen by God to collect pairs of Earth's animals on a massive ark to save them from a global flood. The film, which opened March 28, is sizing up to be a Biblical blockbuster, replete with star power and stunning special effects. But how realistic is it?

While many people consider the story of Noah's Ark merely an instructive myth or parable about God's punishment for man's wickedness, others believe that the story is historically accurate. To them, Noah's tale describes events that really happened only a few thousand years ago.

:’) Thanks bhf. There are other flood stories all over the world, and other than “a one-time event happened, lots of water, a lot of people died”, they don’t have the same details. And since the tales from all over the world and differ, it means there wasn’t a single surviving family in just one place.

Sedentary species like the sloth and koala (and the panda, which eats bamboo) were unknown in other parts of the world, and more to the point, would be found right by Noah’s original landfall. But they aren’t found in the same small part of the world.

The rabbinical sources note that there were other craft during the Deluge, and that the survivors of the Deluge could not light fires, which is an odd detail. Dr V attributed this to the arrival of ionized hydrogen from space, which combined on the way down with Earth’s atmospheric oxygen to produce the waters of the Deluge itself and for the time being at least greatly reduce the oxygen content of the atmosphere.

Thing is the world is so far more evil than anything that happened during Noah’s time. Saying that, are we better morally than the people who died during that flood?

You may have seen Randall Price’s article earlier. He is a professional archeologist who has dome a lot of digs - and in Israel and with the government’s permission.

He has also gone on expeditions looking for evidence of Noah’s ark. It certainly is a real and historical event.

Here is that article from Randall Price ...

The tale of the flood is universal and true enough. The idea that God might have warned the one guy to build a vessel large enough to save most animal kinds is also believable.

The thing which ISN'T believable, to me at least, is that God might have wiped the solar system over concern about sin, only to have sin back in business as if nothing had happened fifty years later. I give God credit for being several tads brighter than that. I assume the flood was just a cosmic event which we got in the way of.

I don’t know all the details of the Great Flood, but I did lose all my Guns in a tragic Ark accident.

It is interesting to note that the first couple of generations after the flood are the ONLY generations in human history where the elders out lived their grandchildren and even great grandchildren.

Since they were building from scratch, this made a tremendous difference in historical culture.

the survivors of the Deluge could not light fires

But yet wasn't one of the (if not THE) first things that Noad did after the flood was to offer a burnt offering?

Of course most people have not heard about the modern Noah.

Seems as though God selected a modern Noah and told him to again build an ark. The new Noah began, and immediately ran into problems. First the building inspector wouldn't give him the permit. Then the justice department sued him claiming that requirement for one male and one female of each species was discriminatory, and gay animals would have to be taken as well. Next the EPA showed up and said all the wood from trees was now protected and he'd have to use something else.

Noah set broken and dejected when suddenly God appeared. “I am so sorry Lord I have failed, but please don't destroy the earth.”

With that the clouds parted and the sun began to shine. In a loud voice Noah cried out, “oh thank you Lord, have you decided not to destroy our civilization?”

To that a thundering voice broke from the clouds, “why waste My time - the Government's doing a fine job for Me.”

Similar story: I was on my way across our local lake with all my guns in the boat to register them on the far shore. Clumsy me, I accidentally capsized my the boat ... all guns lost. So sad, to bad.

I have noticed a lot (especially recently) that many like to call the Biblical account of Noah a “tale” or a “story” as if it is mythological. Jesus talked about Noah and the flood as history, and also as an indicator to show us what the last days before his return are going to be like.

There is no valid dispute that Jesus existed, yet his use of events such as these, as well as the account of Adam and Eve show us that he is referring to real people, and these people are a part of the genealogy of Jesus as well. So why wouldn’t it be true?

One explanation is that God made man in His own image, which after the fall for Satan, seemed to be a target for their influence and/or possession. One theory holds that the genetic makeup of the human species had been corrupted by fallen angels to the point that only Noah and His family remained to keep the species lineage. When the judgment came, all was destroyed by waters from within the earth (fountains from the deep) resulting in a planetary deluge for 40 days and nights. After the saturation of the planet by water, erosion and currents shifted about until an equilibrium was achieved and we now have the continents and oceans manifesting that condition.

It also should be noted that prior to the flood, something meteorlogically occurred to allow rain to form, because the droplet size to diffract light in the rainbow is nearly the same size as it takes to form a raindrop. Prior to that time, it appears the partial pressures were different, such that the planet was covered more in a shroud or mist.

Much more science is available to glean if we simply accept His Word as true first, then try to understand what that implies, instead of trying to imply what His Word means from our limited understanding, thereby reading into instead of out of Scripture.

Yeah, when mine went overboard the Rock People jumped in after them but they never came back up.

I blame Russell Crowe for my loss.
