— The wildfires raging out of control in Maui are so catastrophic, some residents are hurling themselves into the ocean to escape the flames.
Even emergency crews might not be able to help as the infernos – fueled in part by Hurricane Dora churning some 800 miles away – have cut off 911 services and communications in Maui
Our hospital system on Maui, they are overburdened with burn patients, people suffering from inhalation,” she said. “The reality is that we need to fly people out of Maui to give them burn support because Maui hospital cannot do extensive burn treatment.”
The disaster also has wiped out power to about 14,000 homes and businesses in Maui, according to PowerOutage.us

Churing away out in the Pacific, we haven’t heard much about it

. but the Hawaiians DID.
See, the hawaian islands have historically been protected from the majority of hurricans by a coincidence of geography and trade wind patterns.
Most hurricane are broken up by that and never hit the islands.
This one was different, and the hawaians had been warned there were going to be stronger than usual winds in advance.
They knew they were coming, they knew fire danger would be elevated, they knew arson has been an issue of late, they knew to be extra carefull, they knew to be extra watchful.
This fire storm was no “ accident “ imho.
You posted that day right?
Good point.
I’ve been watching the track since last week, and it’s certainly impressive. As you point out, most of these will turn north and peter out long before hitting Hawaii.
Have family on the Big Island, but they haven’t really said anything about the high winds. The fire does seem suspicious.
Wind takes down power line poof fire starts
/
Have you ever been to Maui ?
The fire starts didn’t happen under power lines, most of which are underground.
Btw, I live in Calif. The power line excuse for fires here in north Cal were political in nature and pure b.s. imho.
I say that as one who has been on 39 wildfires on hand crews, and as the son of a PG&E and Bonniville Power Administration employee and relative of linemen.
Hurricane Iniki
This wildfire is being blamed on “Dora”. I’m not sure who that is but Dora has a lot to answer for in fueling this fire.
No, it is as many days later. I had nothing left but a cat and my car and a phone that I didn’t know how to work. No internet. There were no motels, everyone else I knew was evacuated or burned out or too far away to reach. I stayed in horrible places that I never imagined existed with monsters who should be in jail.
Finally have a decent, safe house many miles from there.
Illegal aliens got housing first.
I just want to go home.
More first hand from Maui residents
Ship captain off Maui delivering food and goods to Lahaina was finding people out in the water who had to go into the water. She was plucking them out.
She said THE WATER WAS ON FIRE.

I take it not the whole ocean , but spots, as if diesel had been leaked , or put into, the water ?
The least info
out of upcountry ( maui)
This is tragic.
Glad to hear you’re doing better. I remember you posting some time ago.
Hopefully everything continues in a good direction for you.

Suffering from inhalation!!!!!???????
Good God what is going on????
LOL!
Thank you. One of the worst things was not getting any information. I was stuck 4 hours away and that area had also had fires so there was nothing on news about my area. It was a month before I could go back to see what was left. Nothing really. The Samaritan group actually went through the ruins, found rings and precious things and gave to my granddaughter. I couldn’t get back to her place so she got tired of it in her way and put it all in the garbage I found out a year later. Yes, what is left of my family are lefty idiots.
Every season.
Driving through the dip when its going on is interesting.
Damned shame about Lahaina, pretty little town when no one is a around.
Hopefully Paia is good, hate to lose the Fish market, best fish tacos in the Islands are in that place.
WHO SET THESE FIRES?
I lived in RVSD, CA....many years ago.,,and we had snow a couple times...in the foothills.
There are a few “boutique “ producers but no more industrial sugar. The only crop now are commies and rich commies who complain about the homeless natives.
(I lived there for years.)
Meh...the way to solve this? Don’t live in Hawaii. Or Commiefornia. Both marxist democrats states populated by anti-American leftist marxist democrats who vote for the same. No big loss, really. I’ve got more time to contemplate the crap on the bottom of my shoe.
I appreciate that.
And it is better.. I’m not terrified every day! Lol
Being 75, sick, in a strange place, never recognizing anything or anyone as our country collapses SUCKS.
Lol. But I found the meaning of life.. familiarity!!
I Will never run from a fire again.

Really ?
What has been the forstry managment regime in Hawaii? Proper active management or too much let-nature-do-its-thing inactive management?? Has such wildfires NEVER happened there before???
