Woke home of founder James Madison tries to ease outrage over biased history

Woke staffers at James Madison’s Montpelier are scrambling to give themselves a patriotic image makeover — after public outcry over The Post’s report on the shameful treatment the Founding Father has been receiving at his own Virginia home.

Inflammatory political content was scrubbed from the landmark’s website within days of The Post’s July report. Just this week, Montpelier announced a freshly expanded, month-long “Constitution Day” celebration to mark the Sept. 17 anniversary of the document’s adoption.

Somebody’s feeling the heat. High time. Could be that people don’t want to part with 35 clams to be told how awful they are. Just guessing.

I find it striking that they believed this woke crap was important - until they are challenged. This says we can win - if we fight back, and that they really don’t have the courage to defend it.

Is this one of those “woke” historians who have been convinced that Hamilton, Jefferson, Burr and Madison were BLM hip hoppers?

Monticello has also gone woke. My brother was there a few weeks ago, he told me that in the one hour tour Mr.Jefferson (he wasn’t referred to as President) was mentioned as being a slaveholder twenty two times.

Seriously?? One of my buds came from Washington’s English childhood manor in the UK for the tour, and they importantly made sure to call him President. And these are Brits. Never said “slave” once. It is I admit, kinda funny how the Washington patriarch arrived in the new world.

And now the idiot student “newspaper” about UVA wants all references to Jefferson taken out of the University. Jefferson was its founder. This was the same pompous rag that wrote an editorial in 1980 that Reagan had to be defeated and much of the student body thought it actually carried weight outside its own dorm.

When we were there, the guide told our group Jefferson owned 600 slaves over his lifetime. My Vernon stresses this too.

What the wokes have done to Madison and Jefferson’s homes and history is criminal. They are trying to do it to VMI and Washington’s home. A recent trip to Ft. Monroe found the kiosks biased and woke as well as much of historic Williamsburg and interpreters espousing the evil whites that governed the area.CRT has undermined history and correct interpretation of history.

We were just at Monticello. The tour guide told us that Sally Heming was Thomas Jefferson’s wife’s half-white half sister. I confirmed it with her. And that he didn’t take up with her until after his wife, who Jefferson dearly loved, died. So it’s a little different than the BLM people want to make it.

What a disgrace. I went there maybe 13 years ago, before they were even halfway through ripping out later "renovations" and restoring the interior walls and ceilings to how they would have looked in Madion's time. There were exposed brick structural walls, dusty hardwood joists and lath with bits of rubbled plaster clinging on in most of the rooms.

Having lived in two restored 18th-century Georgian houses in Philadelphia, I was able to tell the tour guide more about the ventilation and cooling techniques associated with the floor-to-ceiling windows and triple-level shutter system in the main reception room than she had any idea about. There was very little tour information offerered, in fact; and it sounds like thatt was just as well.

When I went to the small upstairs room where Madison had written the Constitution, I was again greeted by torn-away plaster, exposed framing, a dusty original floor as yet unrestored, and little else but the MAGNIFICENT view out of the front window at which his desk was situated—of rolling green hills of the Virginia Peidmont descending into the mist in the distance. Montpelier's wide lawn spread out on either side below. I thought of him looking up from his writing as he searched for a word or turn of phrase for the world-altering document he was creating in that small room, and was filled with awe and inspiration.

What a shame these God-hating "reformers" who were never slaves themselves have to take out their spiteful bile on people who set successive millions of oppressed people free, and gave opportunity for anyone who wanted to work and succeed. It's all being killed off, melted down, poisoned and trampled upon by many who aren't even fit to wait upon the skilled workers at Montpelier or Monticello who were enslaved, but saw the road ahead and prepared their children for a better future.

I wonder if they figured out how very skilled the workers had to be to run Washington's very profitable farm, which manufactured many types of goods for export to Europe and to other states? People on those working farms made everything, including soap, candles, rope, nails, horseshoes and leather goods, tools, pottery, tin- or copperware, bricks, fences, walls, wire, finished lumber, clothing, dairy products, stud animals, poultry and many other goods.

Washington was a large exporter of dried fish, cured meats and other dried commodities like herbs and seeds. Very good workers were trusted to go long distances from the estate on business errands, and were sometimes loaned out for a fee to other farms. Mistreating such a person would be a grave mistake. He set his people free in his will, and most of them doubtless had marketable skills.

If they do that, they should just shut down the whole university. If it weren’t for Jefferson it wouldn’t exist.
These people want the benefits of our culture but they want to demonize those who created it. What have these woke folks created?

I have a makeover idea. Fire them and charge them for the cost of repairing their defacing of the place with fake history.
