Traces of platinum, a metal associated with meteorite impact, have been found at archaeological sites of the Clovis people across the US, suggesting that they were wiped out in a mini-Ice-Age triggered by the impact of an extraterrestrial object.

The Clovis people disappeared from North America about 12,800 years ago. Many of the large creatures they hunted – a total of about 35 species – went extinct at about the same time.

Isn’t that about the time the Anasazi ‘disappeared’?

Thought I saw one last week. Being silly yes I know who they were, don’t know the dating.

Don't be silly.
Just indicators of early onset of global warming.

Agree. The more closely spaced catastrophic events have to do with droughts and volcanoes.

..........
Warming started about 15,000 years ago. They were all doing just fine with global warming. The younger dryas —about 12,800 years ago was an interruption in the warming process that plunged the world into an 1800 year cooling period. It was during this cooling period that the die off occurred. So something besides cold or heat caused the die off. After the cooling period was over the warming period resumed again. But by then most of the mega fauna were gone.

Here are some pictures of the skies around europe after the 1815 tambora volcano blast in indonesia. (Imagine something 12,800 years ago many times more powerful than Tambora.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/25/science/mount-tambora-volcano-eruption-1815.html?_r=0
https://www.amazon.com/Tambora-Eruption-That-Changed-World/dp/0691150540

Climate change and what it might do to the earth’s weather has been much in the news. But for a taste of what climate change might be like, consider the eruption of Mount Tambora on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa, which took place 200 years ago this month. In the three years following, there were weather disruptions around the globe.

Gillen D’Arcy Wood, author of the book “Tambora: The Eruption that Changed the World,” tells Here & Now’s Robin Young there were “disruptive monsoons in Asia, you have the largest drought in the North American continent in recorded history and you have season after season of flooding rains across Western Europe.”

The severe weather patterns caused by Tambora also found expression in the art and literature produced in the years following the volcanic eruption: in Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” in the paintings of John Constable and perhaps even in the later writings of Charles Dickens.

No. These are peoples who are supposed to have migrated from central Asia via the ancient Bering Sea Land Bridge.

The Solutrean hypothesis represents the arrival of peoples from Europe.
The less well known Soultrain hypothesis represents the arrival of peoples from Africa.
...........
The solutrean hypothesis is based on the similarity of clovis arrowheads to the solutrean arrowheads from the same period along the coasts of southern france and spain.

Have you seen studies which show similar arrowheads in some sections of africa from the same period—or earlier.

The clovis peoples are believed to be the ancestors of todays American Indians, The Solutrean hypothesis represents the arrival of peoples from Europe.
............
Not necessarily. The particular type of arrowheads that distinguished the clovis people disappeared during the younger dryas. So its thought that the clovis people that made the clovis arrow heads —died out along with the megafauna. The types of arrowheads that occur after the younger dryas are very different —suggesting that very different peoples made them.

Maybe not but you do see a lot of dragons flying across the sky just about everywhere.

They went out about 1300 AD after a couple of 20-30 year droughts.

Haven’t American Indians been subjected to DNA “tracing” to see who they are linked to genetically or from whom they may have come?

the lack of an impact site for the younger dryas plus the presence of widely scattered meteorite material—has suggested to scientists another scenario. that what caused the die off of the younger dryas was a gigantic comet airburst much larger than what occurred over tunguska siberia in 1908.
http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20160706-in-siberia-in-1908-a-huge-explosion-came-out-of-nowhere

If you follow the space news with any kind of regularity you’ll notice how frequently there are near misses by all kinds of space objects. We really do live in a cosmic shooting gallery.

Another signature of a bolide impact is microdiamonds which also show up at younger dryas sites.
One of the guys on this thread posted a couple links on this above. Here is one.
