I have completed exhaustive analysis of the disputed Trump crowd shot and the CNN gigapixel crowd shot. As much as it pains me to say, the two images match quite well and the disputed crowd shot is legitimate and represents the actual crowd size. There was no deception on the part of the media.
I have four decades of experience as an advertising photographer. I am qualified to make this kind of analysis.
As a Trump supporter and voter I think it does us a great disservice to not deal honestly with issues such as these. In this case even the President and his staff have it wrong, and it hurts all of us.
The reason to care is that it makes us look bad not to deal in reality. At first glance i thought the gigapixel image destroyed the media. However when I really studied the gigapixel it is perfectly clear it is a very good fit with the rear view from the Washington monument.
We need to be better than this and Trumps team made a big mistake here.

Not just the District itself, but the Virginia and Maryland suburbs. I expect that a large majority of inauguration audiences are people who can easily day-trip. That fits fewer Republican voters than Democrats.

except that’s not the photo being shown in a lot of instances. They one they showed is 2 hours before the inauguration.
This just in from Neilson - Trump Inauguration was viewed by 30 M. (not counting internet and online). That means it’s the most watched in 36 years (Including Obama!)

I do not understand the obsession with crowd size. So what if more people went to the Obama inauguration. It is meaningless.
Many republican voters do not go to these far-away events because they have jobs and responsibilities.
On the other side, most rat voters do not work, and are paid and bused in to these events. These rats have nothing else to do otherwise.
The crows size is apples to oranges.
I am a programmer. Wrote something for shits and giggles. There are 1.2 million faces in that crowd. The reason obamas crowds looked bigger is that many of them stank. People gave them a wide border.
Count the faces. 1.2

I don’t know why we even went down that road. Obama’s inauguration was historic being the first black president ever. It makes sense that he would have a historic turn out.
We need to find a less hostile way to deal with the hostile press. I like the way Newt handles them. If you watch him, he essentially listens, the laughs in their face and explains why they are wrong. Like him or not, he is very effective.
your top picture does not seem to be when Trump is speaking. So crowd is not accurate in that picture. Trump seems to be sitting intron of Melania in light blue.
2013 picture, I can’t tell if obama sitting in front of lady standing in way/ blocking that seat or if obama is at podium.
If pictures are not when president is speaking, or taking oath, I don’t count them as “Inauguration” pictures.
Like at a concert people are not all there during warm up band.
Um sorry those pics are not the same crowd size are you blind?
The photographers metadata say 12:01. The gigapixel image is during Trumps address. They match. This is not rocket science.
