Three important news stories this week, taken together, cry out for saner gun laws in Illinois beginning with tougher penalties for gun crimes.
In the first story, a man charged with shooting and killing another man near Millennium Park on Saturday was reported to have a criminal record that should have precluded him from even being on the street. The suspect, Paul Pagan, 32 had been arrested 39 times and was twice convicted for pointing a gun during an argument. He has convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless conduct, marijuana possession and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He had a warrant out for his arrest. Yet he was back on the street, allegedly with a gun.
In the second story, the FBI reported on Monday that violent crime in the U.S. was up 4 percent last year and that murder was up 12.8 percent in cities. Violent crime is a Chicago crisis, but we are not alone.

Well, you MIGHT be able to convince me that keeping people who have been arrested 39 times ON THE STREET might call for saner 5th Amendment laws.
The only ‘sane’ gun laws people like this want are TOTAL GUN BAN
Their idiocy about what would happen and what has happened in the past is apparent.
They only care about getting rid of guns a nd are oblivious to the proven results of such gun bans in the past.
i.e.
1) criminals become the ONLY people with guns
2) governments have turned into toatlitarian dictatorships
3) Private citzens are defnseless agaist 1 and 2
Because a criminal who broke the law by having a gun will obey ‘saner’ gun laws.
We don't have any less scumbags and criminals than they do...
We just lock ours up and/or execute them.
Carry a card?
The hell with that, Chip them. Like we do dogs.
Take guns away from Democrats. Crime problem solved
That ones going to sting. Great point...lol
Remove Obama from office and I bet the mass shooting ps drop dramatically. Remove the Muslims and the acts of terrorism will drop like a rock. Take out Soros and a whole lot of problems will suddenly disappear worldwide.
Giuliani presided over a disarmed city; I don’t want that system implemented on a wider scale. His approach to fighting crime was fine, but it was tailored to a locale where people couldn’t defend themselves.
yada, yada, yada.
The dirty secret is that this violent felon had been arrested 39 times prior to committing murder in Chicago and the Illinois criminal justice system had allowed him back on the streets!
Illinois jails and prisons are revolving door institutions: no one serves full sentences; the death penalty has been abolished; judges are soft on criminals; Democratic politicians want to release more criminals to end mass incarceration due to systemic racism (no respect for jury trials that convicted the criminals). The bitter truth is that the crooked Illinois politicians do not want to pay to keep prisoners locked up because it costs about $150.00 per day, so they let’ em go.
“If only Chicago had strict gun laws...oh, wait.”.
Wondering if the 2nd Ammendment protects pressure cookers? Especially those high capacity cookers, the ones with the black handle? Nothing but people killers....
Anyone reading this who thinks "gun control" laws are a good idea - any lib lurkers out there et. al. Ask yourself one simple question: why would a criminal, determined to break numerous other laws (often up to and including murder) obey "gun control" laws? What rational basis is there for believing "gun control" laws will in any way impact crime?
It is pure fantasy - no, that's too kind. It is pure idiocy to believe "gun control" impacts criminals in any way. "Oh, I'm going to go out and steal, intimidate, and kill tonight...oh, hold-up, give me that other gun, this one's got too big of a magazine on it..." Really, do you think that has *ever* been said?
"Gun control" laws are a lie. They are never about public safety, they are all about controlling the law-abiding public and chipping away at our liberties. If any of you out there advocate for them - you are no American, you a loathsome socialist/fascist {expletive}.
Here’s a ‘sane gun law’:
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
What say we try it?
More gun control.
Nothing in the editorial about thug control.
Same old same old anti-Second Amendment broadside.
Predictable like clockwork.
Papabear isn’t saying that felons already have that RFID, he’s proposing that they *ought* to. That way, cops could detect the RFID from their cruiser or while on foot patrol with a simple device. If a cop were to encounter a known felon who doesn’t have his/her chip on their person, their parole would be summarily revoked, the cop immediately arrests them and carts them away. That same RFID reader could be made available to gun shops and other places where felons shouldn’t go.
You could even have different kinds of chips, so that e.g. sex offenders could be differentiated from other types of criminal, and the areas they’re excluded from could be ringed with readers that can detect the sex offender chips.
It sounds very efficient and effective, but I can also see all kinds of potentials for abuse.
“It is obvious that tough gun laws would stop the murders on Chicago streets.”
Anyone who makes that statement either has an IQ below room temperature or is a pathological liar.
They aren’t using the laws they have currently.
Never a mention of morals or spiritual values that underpin a civil and peaceful society. Given the history of Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, we know that secular progressive values (redundant) lead to hell on earth.
Their government is god and they are blind to the limits of government. When government fails progressives have nothing to appeal to except more force. They cannot appeal to God, nor would they ever.
