Ryan Lochte, the US gold medal-winning swimmer, who claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janiero, has been ordered by a judge to remain in the country amid suggestions that they may have fabricated the incident. Federal police in Brazil stopped US team-mates Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger from boarding a flight to the United States at Rio de Janeiro's international airport on Wednesday, O Globo newspaper reported on its website. The swimmers, who were with Lochte during the alleged robbery, were taken off the plane for questioning, the newspaper said. Lochte, 32, one of the most decorated swimmers in Olympic history, left the country shortly before a judge ordered the confiscation of his passport amid a growing mystery about the alleged attack. A Brazilian judge issued an order on Wednesday to prevent their team-mates Ryan Lochte and James Feigen from leaving Brazil while police investigate their account of how the four US swimmers were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. Police said they had further questions for him about the robbery after finding "little evidence" that it had taken place.

Brazil ain't too smart. They can't even take care of a pool without F’ing it up. So, now their Machismo has been questioned and they're pulling people off planes. Idiots. Just wave goodbye, show the footage and call them liars. Now Brazil looks like a No Go Country, which it was before the Olympics and is more so now.
I see an episode of Locked Up Abroad in their future.
“medal detector”
The police took two swimmers who were NOT on the judge’s list, per news reports.
Now they can have him swim against some Brazilians so they can boo him.
“Will Obama do anything???”
Sure. remember what he did to the SEALS after OBL got ‘captured”...
Maybe it wasn’t four men DRESSED as Rio Police Officers who robbed them, but four ACTUAL Rio Police Officers who robbed them?
I read several people’s comments on stories about this, that they too had been robbed in a similar fashion while they were in Brazil. It sounds like the police and judicial system is very corrupt there.
What a croc, Americans need to boycott Brazil once these Olympics are over.
CGato
This is typical police behavior in that part of the world. When I was in Peru, the police came to welcome us at our hosts’ home and to collect their “tip,” to avoid any unnecessary “complications.”
I’m just surprised they’re doing it with such high profile athletes.
Okay, well, that is true. But were they drunk, disorderly or causing a commotion or threatening people? I should have clarified.
They were pulled off of the plane for some strange reason.
And thanks for the "BS" comment. /s
There's no reason to be rude.
I'm getting off of this thread because I don't know international law well enough to comment further, so please don't post to me again. Thanks.
You are a stupid fool. Sorry you don’t understand how 3rd world country works.
LOL. :)
Probably true. This is what happens when you have a pushover as a president. Brazil wouldn't pull this crap under Ronald Reagan. Or Donald Trump.
What if Lochte was lying? HE could forfeit his gold medal.
The swimmers are probably protected legally but doesn’t preclude them from answering questions. They won’t be going back to Brazil any time soon if this is a hoax.
I’m not sure if pulling this stunt on Locktite is any better than having him complain about the already really well know crime situation there.
I believe the swimmers, and think the video is not from the night in question.
Rio is getting great coverage all over the world. They are gonna screw this up. Just let it go.
This fool as been to Brazil and knows it quite well and never was detained. How did that happen? you don’t know how police work anywhere and you don’t know who the hell you’re talking to.
