I think there was an Australian this happened to before the opening ceremonies. Same kind of thing, police shaking him down.

I believe the swimmers. Lochte etc. have no reason to make this up. They already admitted to being drunk and partying.

The comment was BS in the most smelly meaning of the term. It’s a great english phrase indicating a specific meaning. Sorry you find it rude.

What “strange reason” was it they were detained from the plane?

You can’t fire al those bullets and then tell others to shut up. Just don’t respond and we’re done.

Okay, I am not sure. But you said the “police” have every right to pull you off a plane.”

Perhaps that is true if the people being pulled off the plane are wanted for something, but these people were not.

But a captain of a plane can order passengers off if they are deemed a threat, I think. ?

Anyway, it is very strange. I hope Brazil lets them go home soon.

Maybe it wasn’t four men DRESSED as Rio Police Officers who robbed them, but four ACTUAL Rio Police Officers who robbed them?

Wow. Frightening thought.

The swimmers would have to be some of the dumbest people in the world to fabricate such a story. Nothing at all to be gained by them. Sounds like the Brazilian judge is hypersensitive to the bad publicity and trying to turn it around to save a little face for his nation.

Do you know why they were pulled off? You know that witnesses can be pulled off. You know filing a false police report is a crime? You know some one may have accused them falsely and the cops have to investigate to see if it’s false or not or do medal winners get the benefit of a doubt? Not saying what they did, just saying I can think of half a dozen reasons it’s legitimate to do what the Brazilians did.

I see an episode of Locked Up Abroad in their future.

There certainly is a possibility of that happening.

and yes a captain can do based on passenger complaint, crew report and so on. I can’t understand the uproar over this. If it’s costs an extra day, then so be it.

That's what I was implying, but I didn't say it quite as well as you.

The video clearly shows Lochte taking his wallet out while going through security.

I posit that the protitute they tried to hire not only robbed them but had a weiner, and they are embarrassed about it and concocted a poor cover story.

Apparently robbers there oftentimes just take your money and give you your wallet back.

You got that right. I was ranting at dinner about it. If I was President I would be on the phone reaming out that Brazilian President. We never should have let our athletes go to swim in shite in the first place.

“They have no right to pull people off of a plane just to be “questioned.” No right to take away their passports”

It happens all the time. We pull people off planes too.

Good example of why a second passport is good emergency equipment.

if makes no difference if the swimmers were really robbed,
or if the robbers were cops or non-cops.

Brazil has lost face,

my suggestion for how Brazil could save face is.

have the swimmers make a taped confession,
in exchange for leaving the country.

next time
stay in the Olympic village

Do you think the Brazilians would even consider pulling this nonsense if Trump was President?

I see nothing wrong with grown men going out on the town after the completion of a lifetime of work and tying one on!They should be able to do so without getting robbed by either fake cops or corrupt cops.

Anyone that has ever been to a Latin American country knows that corruption is their daily bread!

I didn't know that was possible to get! But that is a great idea. :)

I can’t wait to get rid of the sissy boy in the White House.

I hope Trump will instill the fear of God in our enemies.

If you act weak they will walk on you; if they fear you they will go out of their way to not make trouble.

There are other, lower profile ways to leave a country also. Worth thinking about before you travel somewhere.
