This is typical police behavior in that part of the world. When I was in Peru, the police came to welcome us at our hosts’ home and to collect their “tip,” to avoid any unnecessary “complications.”
I’m just surprised they’re doing it with such high profile athletes.
I think you’re on to something. If the athletes have enough cash to grease a few palms they may be on their way back. It may take a bank transfer from home.
