Mike Pence ‘strongly’ endorses Paul Ryan, as Trump refuses to do the same

As Donald Trump holds off endorsing House Speaker Paul D. Ryan in Wisconsin's Republican primary, his running mate enthusiastically endorsed Ryan on Wednesday, calling him a “longtime friend” and “strong conservative leader.”

“I strongly support Paul Ryan, strongly endorse his reelection,” Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said during an interview on Fox News on Wednesday afternoon. “I believe we need Paul Ryan in leadership in the Congress of the United States to rebuild our military, to strengthen our economy and to ensure that we have the kind of leadership in this country that will make America great again.”

Trump has angered his party's leadership by refusing to endorse Ryan or Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in their primary campaigns. Both Ryan and McCain have endorsed Trump but have remained critical of many of his comments, including Trump's ongoing public feud with the parents of a Muslim American soldier killed in 2004. Wisconsin holds its primary Tuesday and the Arizona primary is later this month. In an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday, Trump praised Ryan’s underdog opponent, Paul Nehlen.

‘Doubt Pence would have done this without DJT’s permission. It is a token peace, not a rebellion.’

Agree. This is Trump having his cake and eating it too. He got the personal satisfaction of giving Ryan back some of his own, but calmed Priebus’ hysteria via Pence. A very good play.

Pence adds nothing to the ticket. I wish he'd shut his damn mouth. Put Pence in a room and lock him up until Nov.

Donald made a bad decision here but seeing the pressure he is under he gets pass for this real screw up.

Go Nehlen go!

There isn't a "real" Freeper that doesn't want to flush the Ryan swill.

Looks like the rumors are right and that Pence was basically forced down Trump’s throat as running mate. There is no loyalty to the top of the ticket coming from him.

>>Major error from Pence.
I think he’s been very solid so far but he has made a huge misstep here.

Agree, absolutely. I was thrilled with Pence up until this very stupid move. I’d like to know WTH is going on, REALLY.

Ryan finally endorsed him at the convention. There is a strategy here. He let Ryan squirm like Ryan let Trump dangle in the wind for a time. In the end he allowed the ticket to endorse him because Trump is telling him that his silence means something when he becomes President. If Ryan wants access to the President then note the lack of overt endorsement and that DT can pull the access rug out at any time if he gets out of line.

This helps Ryan so don’t delude yourself. Taking out Ryan and McShiiteStain are also priorities. There is more then just a Presidential election going on here. PLAY THE WHOLE FIELD. This not time to play Rovian cutsie politics.

“smart move by Trump
Pence gets to be the endorser
If Ryan loses, it was Pence’s bad call not his
If Ryan wins then he can work on Trump’s legislative agenda with Pence, which is what Trump wants his VP to do”

This is exactly right!

Vote Trump 2016

“Doubt Pence would have done this without DJT’s permission. It is a token peace, not a rebellion.”

Good strategy on Trump’s part.

Pence’s endorsement simultaneously extends an olive branch to Ryan to get aligned with trump while making Ryan look small and petty for snubbing Trump’s peace offering.

It puts enormous pressure on Ryan without making it look like Trump is twisting arms.

Dont let thie effing media discourage us!!

I can’t see how anyone could get discouraged by this obvious media blitz, with the help of the usual RINO suspects, to take a bite out of Trump.
Beside the alternative is so repugnant that it makes Trump seem like a choir boy in comparison.

If Trump wins he will need Pence to negotiate with congress. They don’t like or trust Trump, but if he wants legislation passed he will need them later. Pence needs to stay on good terms with Congressional leaders.

Methinks Newt just ended any chance he might have had to work in the Trump administration.
