Is Free Republic worth Saving? My Opus Part II
Free Republic ^ | August 30, 2013 | The Bat Ladys Husband

Posted on 05/02/2016 10:52:50 AM PDT by The Bat Ladys Husband

My involvement with Free Republic began around 2000 when my wife began her vigil around the Texas governor’s mansion in support of GW against the challenge of Al Gore for the presidency. I generally provided the livelihood for the Bat Lady to be able to protest and surround the mansion against the leftists who were kept at bay across the street. While she was registered in order to post after action reports I was a lurker

"The Bush vs Gore occupied corners at Walter Reed hospital"

I've been here for a long time too (under a different screen name), and I remember looking foward to FR's pics and after action reports from Walter Reed and other Bush/Gore protests (The "Get Out of Cheney's House" and RaceBannon's WH protests/costumes of Clinton come to mind.) You East Coasters got to have all the fun :)

I have to say, I share your frustration with Free Republic. The insults, bannings, and lack of any kind of reasoned debate have been bizzare to witness.

I've had run ins here lately, with a 9/11 truther, loads of snarky Christian bashers, pro abortion people, some so called FReepers whose only response is to call me "hater" because I disagree with them, and just recently someone tried to convince me that Boehner is a conservative hero (Say what???).

It's gotten to the point where I want to shout to FR's founder:

"Who are you and what have you done with Jim Robinson and Free Republic?!" And ask Jim if there are any unusual pods laying in his front yard.

But the absolute worst part of all this is seeing so many "Old School Gold" FReepers Opus out.

These are screen names of FReepers I recognize from those protest days-names of people who went out and worked to try and wake up our citizenry.

It's appalling to see how many snarky comments show up when an Old School FReeper leaves.

And those who try to stick it out here are also treated to nasty comments and insults. It's not right.

Jim-the number of long time FReepers Opusing each week can't be good.

Please find a way to adress this and stop the bleeding.

I don't want to see Free Republic go down.

I admit that I am more defensive now, but that is the accurate word: DEFENSIVE

I have seen just too much of this cult of personality surrounding trump

and it just stuns me that a Conservative website has been hijacked by people who defend a lying adulterous draft dodger, when we were founded on opposing a lying adulterous draft dodger!

we went from hating Clinton to supporting Clinton supporters!

DU must be laughing their head off.

... when does Trump EVER talk about the Constitution?

He has talked about reigning in that pesky First Amendment.

My question was... "when does Trump EVER talk about the Constitution?"

Bubba's reply He has talked about reigning in that pesky First Amendment. (with link above)

yeow! That doesn't sound good, kinda like letting men go in women's bathroom, right?

But still not the Constitution, but the Bill of rights.

As I keep saying I would feel better about Trump if he would tell us he is going to govern according to the Constitution.

AND because I'm greedy, I also want our leaders to respect the BOR and protect them, but then I'm naive and think all our elected officials job IS TO PROTECT OUR LIBERTIES!!!!!!!

A two part opus? The first part must not have been that effective.

I liked the opus from yesterday that was just the word "opus".

Lol- ok you’re welcome to your opinion- but you are overreacting- it doesn’t matter how close the candidates are- when the rules aren’t met- it goers to contested convention- period- end of story- an no all the contested conventions were not close-

Fortunately for America Trump has, with his total victory in Indiana, vanquished the fool Cruz once and for all. We won't have to deal with the consequences of a contested convention.

Now on to victory in November against the real enemy!

You and me both- But he is going to have ‘universal health care’ somehow without a mandate- not sure how he’s going to pull that miracle off because a mandate is the only way you can get enough people paying in to cover preexisting conditions and the poor- ‘competition’ and ‘doing away with state liens’ sure as heck aint gonna do it

[[Bubba’s reply He has talked about reigning in that pesky First Amendment.]]

We’re likely going to see many a flip flop once he has the actual nomination and noone can do anything about it- just a gut feeling-

[[But the absolute worst part of all this is seeing so many “Old School Gold” FReepers Opus out. ]]

Exactly- but sadly the trump supporters excuse the fact that they drove these people out by claiming the long standing members weren’t ‘patriotic’ and ‘didn’t support the party’ because they didn’t think trump was a true conservative-

[[These are screen names of FReepers I recognize from those protest days-names of people who went out and worked to try and wake up our citizenry. ]]

It’s amazing that they now got banned for trying to continue getting word out and fight for what they believed in-

[[Please find a way to adress this and stop the bleeding.]]

It’s been dealt with- any negative posts or threads about trump are seen as ‘trying to start a flame war- now- so no matter what trump does- anyone mentioning it if it’s negative will be dealt with apparently- according to some freepers which keep posting jim’s ‘call to action’ thread- (of course I believe they are reading into the call- but they now use it as a bludgeoning tool anytime someone brigns up something that isn’t flattering to trump)

Meh. I appreciate my history here (banned as a Giuliani supporter in 2008) - took a little in the shorts back then, but love the toughness and resolve of most here in the present. This could be a good year, finally.

“when does Trump EVER talk about the Constitution?”

Talk is cheap. I’d rather see someone walking the walk instead of talking the talk. Cruz can blather about the Constitution until the cows come home, but if he respected the Constitution he wouldn’t have bamboozled Texans by not informing him he’s Canadian.

he doesnt need a mandate anymore, all he needs to do is create a new bill to modify the existing health care laws that obama had put in place and changed through exec orders and had the liberals on the supreme court back up and all the phony repubs in congress back up.

that mandate never existed except in the minds of all the people donald trump donated to and went to weddings with and even said one of them would make a good president in 2008.

Yeah, that's totally comparable to the 2016 convention. Give it up, the attempt to defy the voters failed. It's over.

Have some Cheetos.
