If Trump Is Nominee.... [my opus]
Self | 5/01/05 | Calpublican

Posted on 05/01/2016 4:50:43 PM PDT by Calpublican

As a 5th generation Republican and Lifelong Conservative the political events of recent years have been frustrating. None are more frustrating than this election cycle.

We prayed and hoped for a real Conservative to counter the leftward pull of Obama. We wanted someone to pull the country to the right so we could possibly be, at least, center America, where we typically like to land in national politics.

We have had several Conservative candidates this cycle, but many who have called themselves "Conservative" have coalesced behind a man who is the farthest thing from Conservative as is imaginable and why? Because of FEAR.

Fear of the other, fear of violence, fear of immigrants. These are valid fears, but when fear turns to hate judgement is clouded. That is what has happened. Instead of standing by principles, "Conservatives" have been drawn to hateful rhetoric. Even after Trump has disavowed his own rhetoric to the NYT& others, the seed has been planted. If one wonders how despots rise to power, this is how. Exactly.

Trump's positions are all Liberal/Leftwing, some experts speculate Neo- Proto- or Ur-Fascist as well . He did not magically become Conservative and he has given ample evidence of this---repeatedly. But the fearful will not or cannot hear it.

If Trump is the nominee which Liberal will I choose? I choose Hillary and will, for the first time in my life, vote for a Democrat for president. Why? Because if Trump wins, pretending to be Conservative, he will destroy Conservatism for 20 yrs. He is not pulling down-ticket Conservatives so his administration would be Liberal to the max.

It is a difficult choice but I am absolutely convinced it is the correct choice. If I have to vote Liberal, I vote strategically Liberal.

That’s like painting your own ship with a radar target because you lacked confidence that the captain would make sound battle decisions. You need a medical leave and it looks like you got it.

I'm not a Trump supporter for some very good reasons...

That being said, he is FAR and ABOVE better by trillions of degrees than Hillary...

That's why he has my vote if he wins the nomination...

Any damage Trump MIGHT do to conservatives pales into comparison what Hillary WILL do...

A vote for Hillary is a vote against your country, yourself and probably God...

The only other one I can think of in recent memory is Newt Gingrich.

...

The election of 1994 was an incredible accomplishment. Too bad he couldn’t follow through.

We need someone to save the nation before we can get back to work on the social issues. A safe, proud nation with a stable population can turn things around. Trump can provide us with that. The others cannot.

I find it insulting that you wouldn't vote for the choice of a majority of Republicans. This, after all these years of us voting fodder being told to vote for "the lesser of two evils".

6 out of 10 on the Opus Scale.

I think you were generous to an old-timer. I guess that’s fair.

My poison is Hillary.

Then take your poison. Here's hoping it puts you out of our misery.

If it's Trump or Hillary/Bernie, it's my obligation to vote in the best interests of my country. I could not bring myself to vote for McCain and chose third party. I held my nose and voted for Romney and I suppose I'll hold my nose twice and vote for Trump but if I find a strong constitutionalist on a third party ballot, I might change my mind.

I live (proudly) in Texas and we will, as a state, choose the most conservative major party candidate as we've done every year since LBJ so my vote for president doesn't matter. However, this election cycle has left a very bad taste in my mouth to see so many so-called conservatives fall for this crude amoral gadfly who says something great one moment and then, minutes later, says something else to demonstrate that he didn't understand the sound bite he had just said.

You should start writing your opus too.

I hope it is a lot better than your Dead Ender friends opus.

If he’s a Californicator, his vote won’t really matter.

As someone else said...”I am 100% convinced that the country will be worse off in 4 years if Hillary Clinton is President; I am only 50% convinced that the country will be worse off in 4 years if Trump is.”

The Cruz-only voters need to humble themselves and get off their high-horses.

Really. Libby Lu should start a tutoring class. LL is a pro with the opus.

I have been a Republican all my adult life: If Trump
is the party’s nominee, I will write in Ted Cruz! Trump
is as bad as Obamy but in a different way.

Trump “as bad as Obama”? Trump certainly has not enabled Obama’s secret trade agenda. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Ted Cruz who campaigned in the U. S. Senate to enable the secret Obama trade agenda.

Wow. Hillary ? And then you go on about how abortion is a hateful crime - which Hillary embraces as a woman’s right BTW and your tax dollars will continue to fund abortions - you make zero sense. Sad for you.
