Trump: You Bet I Support Raising Taxes on the Rich
Townhall ^ | 04/21/2016 | Guy Benson

GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigrationabortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

>> Well, he cuts taxes on everyone in his official tax proposal so have no idea what he means here.

I guess that what Trump says, and then what he actually says, are two different things, Jim.

“What you brain dead “movement” conservative don’t get is this is the beginning of a new era, we are ditching the post Free Trade malaise era.”

You’re dumping a whole lot more than that.

You are dumping conservative values, you are dumping the Constitution, you are dumping states’ rights, you are dumping anything that is meaningful to true constitutional conservatives all for paying back GOPe.

Congratulations! Now how are we going to get our country back????!!!

“The Cruz people are hurling insults - again.”
I hope you are being sarcastic.
Are we allowed to point out that we disagree with the positions he appears to be taking now that the conservative portion of the Republican primary is over?

I’m going to disagree with you on one point here, they ARE defending his positions on these issues. Seriously, I got into an argument with someone on another thread with them basically trying to say that Donald Trump is more pro-life than Ronald Reagan was, so changing the platform is OK with them.
I’ve seem them defending “Touchback Amnesty” which I believe everyone here was against when I think it was Pence who tried to get it done the last time.

He’s always said the very rich will be paying more under his plan, especially hedge fund managers. Have you watched any of his interviews or listened to any of his speeches?

But nobody wants to actually look into the details. Oh why do I even beat my head against this.

Most “devil Donald” accusations don’t pan out in the end.

At this rate, Hillary can probably win by running to the right of The Donald. Pretty funny.

I have been saying this for months. Once the general starts - Trump could run to the left of Hillary on many issues. I also have been saying he could steal her thunder and choose as a running mate VP , someone like Chuck Schumer. Trump/Schumer 2016

He’s talking about simplifying, taking out loopholes. And a smaller nominal tax rate.

A system like this is, at least, fairer.

WE’RE so stupid??!!

We’ve know this for months, and we’ve been trying to enlighten you brain dead TRUMPBOTS that are country is at stake.

If he is on about like in the past about hedge fund managers and the rich like Hollywood who stash their money and cheat taxes then I have no problem with them paying their taxes, however if this is a broad tax hike for just being rich then I am opposed to it, but then again I have ot know more in it’s context before I damn or not damn this unlike some others.

Hey are you smart? You do know the real wealthy do not pay “income’ taxes on their wealth because their lobbyists have manipulated the tax code definition of income to exclude the monetary vehicles the super rich use to handle their wealth. Like Hillary using her charity to buy their houses yachts, pay for trips etc. The way its set up the really rich do not have much “income” as the tax code defines it. Its in trusts, charities, foundations=, personal corporations etc.

The reason is they are the special interests who control the lobbyists who control people like Cruz. So I have no problem with making those who create the tax code loopholes to tax us but not them gets caught in their own arrangements.

Do you think its fair for you and me to pay taxes on our labor but people like Hillary do not have to count her hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees as income thus not paying Income tax like we do?

like Chuck Schumer. Trump/Schumer 2016

And #neverhannity would be telling everyone every day that we had to vote for Trump/Schumer in order to stop Hillary.
