The Republican party is not a direct democracy. It crafts its own rules, and it can change them. Here are questions that Republican delegates should be asking themselves: Is it worth upsetting a bunch of angry, marginally conservative voters who often have a minor fidelity to the doctrines of your party? Or are you prepared to put your political infrastructure and full weight behind a cartoonish George Wallace–like character who’ll probably inflict more damage than you could ever hope to repair?
RNC chairman Reince Priebus says that he expects every GOP presidential candidate to uphold a pledge to support the eventual nominee. Considering what we heard in Senator Marco Rubio’s concession speech, I find this difficult to believe. At best, Priebus is going to have a bunch of politicians tiptoeing around Trump in tacit nonsupport. And if enough big-name Republicans end up supporting Trump, it only accentuates the need for a new party.
An ABC exit poll — with all the usual caveats about the unreliability of exit polls — said that six in ten non-Trump-supporters say they would “seriously consider a third party if he became the GOP’s nominee.” The more disgust his big-government positioning and ugly rhetoric generate, the higher that number rises. And there are a number of rational reasons to support such a run.
For starters, Trump supporters are already very angry about everything. It’s not as if they could be any angrier with the establishment. Once Trump is gone (and he’ll leave with no coherent movement), these voters will either have to come back and look for alternative candidates with compelling messages, or leave the party altogether.
In the short run, a third-party candidate might insulate down-ballot candidates from Trumpism. You do remember Todd Akin, I’m sure?

National Review is in its death throes.
Subscriptions are way down. They can’t attract good writers. They fear that with a Trump administration they will no longer have access to political elites or get invited to those great parties.
Their writers fear that when the magazine finally goes under, they will be out in the street jobless, like the middle class Americans they think they are so much better than. After all, who wants to hire a political science major who has never done real work in their entire life?

This is why there will be thousands of Trump supporters outside that convention if Trump does not have enough delegates. There will be no stealing this thing from Trump, they will be shaking in their boots inside that convention center.

You’re right, I think, about “their final move,” if they steal the nomination. Think about NY state, 65% preference for Trump, and very few undecided. He has, first brought out the arrogance of the elitism on the GOP side. Imagine, NRO saying, not once but twice that middle America towns deserve to die. Calling Trump supporters dumb and unengaged. And now this naked disrobing of their true hearts, to say, flat out: F the voters; steal the nomination.
If they can’t do it soon, they’ll never be able to, bc if DT gets even close to 50% the rest of the way, they won’t dare pull the tiger’s tail. Because, as you say . . .

That’s the message your state legislators need to hear. They won’t be so quick to BOHICA us if they know their job is on the line.
I’ve been avoiding NRO for awhile now but this article pissed me off so much, I had to pay them a visit to let them know what I think. This is what I told them.
GOPe and NRO hear me on this! I’m voting for Trump for President, as the R nominee or as a write in if I have to. If I have to do a write in vote, I’ll do so, but then I’m going to vote a straight Dem ticket on the rest of my ballot.
If you insist on ruining our last chance to save this country to keep your place at the trough, then let’s get this party started. You might think Hillary is a fine alternative to Donald Trump, but you’ll be singing a different tune when the Democrats hold super majorities in both houses. And let’s not forget how many SCOTUS picks she might get.
You may disagree with me in my methods, but I submit that the GOPe and every elected Republican official must be put on notice that them screwing Donald Trump out of the nomination will cost them and the party dearly.
Every House member and many Republican Senators have to stand for reelection this year. Trump voters have tremendous leverage if we promise to vote against every Republican running for election in November if they defy us of our choice of Donald Trump for President.
You may not believe that the American people have any leverage in this, but many, many Republican elected officials stand to suffer career ending losses in their bid for reelection this November if the party doesn’t take us seriously and cheats the man millions of us voted for out of the nomination.
You can simply walk away if you wish, but it would be a lot more effective into scaring them straight by telling them you’ll vote a straight Dem ticket, and do it if they go against the will of the people.
As distasteful as I find NRO to be nowadays, I still went there to post my opinion and let them know I’m voting for democrats if they cheat Trump out of the nomination.
I wonder how many FReepers ever go post at the OP sites to let them know what they think, or if they do all their posting here.
Trump has pulled the masks off of many.
I’ve fought and stood for Republicans my whole adult life. Ever since 14 years old in 64 working a dollar an hour job.
I worked and strove and prospered and paid a buttload of taxes and apparently wasted a lot of votes on Republicans - all for nothing. I’m not walking away. I’m just not gonna walk down that path of deceit any more.
You do what you want. I’m still done.

I’m urging all the Trump supporters to go post your thoughts on these sites publishing these articles. If you don’t, you truly are just preaching to the choir.
Good idea, I recoiled from having to register there, but I can create a burner EMAIL for the spam I will generate.
WND, Takimag, AT, Breitbart, NRO, gateway pundit, dilbertblog and many other sites I can’t recall right now all use Disqus to post comments and I’ve never gotten any kind of spam from them.
Your Disqus account is good over any site that uses it so there’s no need for multiple accounts.
