Ted Cruz Receives Mitt Romney's Seal Of Approval (Where's the disavowal?)
3/03/2016 | Brices Crossroads

Generally speaking, your enemies' actions will tell you who or what they fear. Mitt Romney's windy tirade, on behalf of the Establishment and against Donald Trump, is no different. The Establishment fears Donald Trump and not because he might lose. The Establishment is very adept at losing, having lost the popular vote in five of the last six Presidential elections. No. They are afraid of Donald Trump because they not only believe he might win; the actually believe he WILL win. His victory would end their gravy train and suspend, as well as expose to scrutiny, the rackets they have been involved in for the last quarter century. From the GOP Establishment's point of view, a Hillary Clinton victory is infinitely preferable to that.

I have listened for months now as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, among others, have repeatedly lumped Ted Cruz together with Donald Trump as the two threats for which, the Establishment has equal and unmitigated disdain. I think many of us knew that Ted Cruz was no threat to the Establishment but was a cog in its machinery. Willard Mitt Romney, the latest Establishment sacrificial lamb, has now revealed that Ted Cruz is, in fact, an Establishment operative in good standing. At his Trump bashing event, Romney said the following:

"If the other candidates can find common ground, I believe we can nominate a person who can win the general election and who will represent the values and policies of conservatism. Given the current delegate selection process, this means that I would vote for Marco Rubio in Florida, for John Kasich in Ohio, and for Ted Cruz or whichever one of the other two contenders has the best chance of beating Mr. Trump in a given state."

By giving Cruz his imprimatur, Romney provided a very valuable service to any voter who is torn between which of the two anti-Establishment candidates, Trump or Cruz, to support. The fact is there is, and always was, only one anti-Establishment candidate, and it was never Ted Cruz. Someone needs to let Rush and Sean know that they can now drop the line that Cruz is anti-Establishment. Unless, of course, Cruz wants to repudiate Romney's endorsement.

Come to think of it, since we are hearing many calls for repudiations of support/endorsements from this person or that group, perhaps it is not too bold to ask: Can we get a disavowal, Ted?

Didn't think so.

Romney trashed Trump far more than he ever trashed Obama. Now he grows a set? No sale, Mittens.

Yep that’s the biggest issue I have with this. McCain, Romney, all the GOPe attack each other more than Obama. Had they attacked Obama like this we wouldn’t need to have a Trump or Cruz at the top of the ticket.

Mitt sure showed his colors with that hit piece on Trump. Trump supported him in 2012 and this POS comes along and sand-bags Trump. If I were Cruz, I wouldn’t be particularly happy to have Romney’s endorsement given that Romney is so easily disloyal.

That's all we need to say for the next 8 months

Of course there won’t be a disavowal. Cruz will show his true colors (yet again) and tacitly agree with Romney.

And plenty of Cruz’s supporters won’t see this, as they’ve been mesmerized by this shyster.

Most insightful.

Not only does Trump have all the right enemies, from these favorable words from Mitt-Witt regarding Ted Cruz, it would appear that Ted has all the WRONG friends.

First Glenn Beck.

Now Mitt Romney?

This won’t play well in the remaining primaries. All that Romney, McCain and ther rest of the GOP ‘Axis of Oafs(c)’ have done is to piss off American voters who are tired of the endless charade between the ‘RAT and RINO wings of the UniParty, they’re saying “enough is enough” and that is why Trump is going to be the next President of the United States.

This could be an indication that no matter how much the GOPe despises Cruz, they hate Trump more and have concluded that Cruz has a better chance than Rubio to stop The Donald. Whether they can convince Rubio to withdraw is a different issue.

Gimme a break, if Trump had received Romneys blessing he’d be trumpeting it from the treetops.

“By giving Cruz his imprimatur,...”
At what point did he do that? I think what he said was ‘Anybody but trump. Rubio first, Kasich second and if you really have to, pick Cruz but don’t pick Trump’

It is an extreme far reach to think that is in anyway ‘giving imprimatur’ -— yes, I had to look that word up.

I was for both Trump or Cruz; however I was on the fence for Cruz because when I read and heard his wife was a member of the CFR , works for Goldman Sachs, worked under George Bush and helped craft the CFR North American Unity. That gave me a RED FLAG ALERT, however not to high. What bothered me alot is when during the debate Rubio and Cruz shook hands behind Mr. Trump, that bothered me. Then came the speech in the Texas Primary. OMG I swear it was the establishment speaking. Now this morning with Mittens advocating to vote for Rubio, Kasich and even Cruz. I thought “Ok Ted your one of them. Your just playing your role as an outsider.” I wonder if Ted was voting “conservative” as a ploy to make us think he is with us. Who knows. For sure Heidi Cruz reminds me of Hillary and I don’t want that.

Just came across one of my posts on FR on March 17, 2012, regarding Romney's status on that date. Thought it was interesting. Perhaps you will too.
Not only does Romney seem to lack the ability to inspire us with the ideas of our Declaration of Independence from a "big government" tyrant (King George III), and the similarity of that King's actions to the tyranny we face today, but he also cannot convey the "vision" thing for our future which harmed Bush 1's candidacy.

"The People" who make up the 60 - 70% of Republicans who don't vote for him likely have studied their American history accounts of Jefferson, Washington, Adams, and Madison. They are looking for a modern inspirational leader like Reagan--a man who had taken the personal time to immerse himself in the ideas essential to liberty, and was willing and able to recognize the enemies of freedom and to engage in a battle of ideas against the counterfeit ideas of socialism.

His casual writing off of the President as "a good man who is in over his head," or that "does not understand how the economy works," is either naive or a dangerous deliberate mischaracterization.

And, then, a post from today, following his blasting of Trump as a "phony":
The "establishment" reps are "phony" advocates for "freedom" also. Witness that portion of Romney's speech dedicated to the Founders' views of "democracy."

Any student of America's founding who quotes John Adams should know that the founders outright rejected the idea of "democracy" in favor of framing a Constitution for a "Republic"--as in Benjamin Franklin's:"A Republic, ma'am, if you can keep it."

Such lack of a basic understanding of and ability to articulate the ideas of liberty kept Romney from being able to rebuke and rebut Obama four years ago, and his inability to do that then, followed by 4 years of failing to mount continuing articulation of the ideas essential to liberty, helped to produce the anger and frustration among citizens which has produced the Trump phenomenon.
