The Libertarian Moment Lives With Ted Cruz
Liberty Conservatives Magazine ^ | February 7, 2016 | Remso W. Martinez

Rand Paul is out, so what does this mean for the realistic future of 2016? It means what I've been saying for a while, Senator Ted Cruz will take his campaign all the way. There is now pretending that Ted Cruz is a libertarian, he is as conservative as they come, in the traditional sense.

The difference between Cruz and Paul though is this; Cruz never pretended to be something he wasn't, he has much adoration for libertarians, and has stated time and time again that when certain challenges come about, there is a need for a coalition. Senator Rand Paul on the other had was different, Paul over and over again denounced being a libertarian when it was unpopular to appear as when, and then whenever he needed a boost in support, he would toss around the word “libertarian” out of style. To simplify it, Ted Cruz is the friend that accepts you for who you are, while Rand Paul was the friend that would ignore you except when you were needed to advance his agenda.

As the race for the White House continues, Ted Cruz is now the only Republican left who can maintain the Reagan Coalition he has been fighting to piece together. While there are enough reasons libertarians would consider Cruz as a viable option, a honest assessment of Cruz from a libertarian lens has almost always been dismissed. Now is the time however to reconsider. I've stated in the past why I think Cruz will be the most libertarian-leaning president since Coolidge, but what are others saying?

Nick Gillespie over in an op-ed for the Daily Beast stated: ...

Obama hid all that crap.

He was likely a citizen f the crown and a US citizen.
I suspect he traveled to pakistan on a british passport seeing as travel from the US to pakistan was banned at the time.

Regardless, that man is POTUS so this is flogging a dead horse and TED Cruz aint evil and he aint Obama!

I find it interesting that you believe that my interest in preserving the Constitution must be a result of my hatred of Cruz. Facts are facts. Debate those for awhile and see if it helps.

The best thing Cruz supporters can do is stop bringing this issue to the table. It’s a dead loser on 5 different levels. Shall I point out who posted the article?

-- And I think yer full of it they made no such ruling that I know of. --

There is a 1971 case with US mom, Italian dad, and born in Italy. Guy was born a citizen. SCOTUS premised the entire case (and many more similar) on the baby being born, naturalized.

-- How is Obama in office if such a ruling was made? --

Obama's case is different. Born in the US (supposedly). There is no recent precedent like Obama - I do think there are some old ones, but the 1898 Wong Kim Ark case (Chinese born in the US to permanent resident Chinese parents) overshadows all of the others.

All that matters, and all that has ever matters with regard to this issue is-
WHAT DID NATURAL BORN MEAN WHEN THE CONSTITUTION WAS RATIFIED.
Period.

If you read the article, the libertarians recognize that Cruz is not a libertarian, just the most libertarian of the bunch. Moreover, they are down with his plan to revive the long dormant Reagan Coalition (of which they are an important part) and are moving to Ted Cruz in large numbers because of it.

If Cruz gets the nomination I will wholeheartedly support him.

See what AHOLES many Cruz folks are?

You can’t merely support Cruz and Trump

You have to denounce Trump to make them happy

Whoever is managing the Cruz efforts here on Free Republic for his campaign should have reeled the dogs in a bit

They have turned off a lot of folks and converted no one

I’ll still be happy with either one but many Cruz folks are to say the least insufferable...as are some Trumpees but not as many by my count

Just like many Palin zealots were

And guess what?

Many are the same folks 5 years later and now they gut Sarah because she didn’t toe the line

Give folks a little authority on a political forum and it becomes Lord of the Flies rather quick
